Looking for a school in the NE Ohio, W PA. area. I'm still a bit of a beginner; Purchased my first "real bike" 8/05, very comfortable now, Just a little leary of really pushing it without some proper training under my belt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My Mechanical Ingenuity is Inversely Proportionate to the Amount of Money in my Pocket!

NESBA does track days in the Pittsburgh area, but I'm not sure about classes. I think the track is called Beaver Run. They have what are called Control Riders that will help you out with pointers and control traffic in the Beginner group. It is a good experience. If you are already a good street rider you will do fine and have a great time. |

Do a riding school not a race school as a beginner. The race school just makes sure you aren't dangerous on the track and issues you a license to race. The riding school teaches you the skills you need. At least that's how all the schools I've seen are run, yours may be different. Call them and talk to them about what you want out of the school. All I could find is H/D Riders edge. When I went to my local dealer(Youngstown H/D Buell) they directed me to http://www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/ercoverview.htm Lame!! Looks like a waste of time!! I want to learn something, not rehash common sense basics I learned from reading and practice. The search goes on... track day organizations (clicking through these first will probably give you a good idea of what tracks have motorcycle riding and where they are located) http://www.privatetracktime.com/ http://www.nesba.com/ http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/ schools that i know - i've only taken penguin and have no experience with the rest. they are listed in the order that i remembered them/found them on google http://www.visionsportsridingschools.com http://www.learningcurves.com/ http://www.classrides.com/ http://www.fastfreddie.com/ http://www.starmotorcycle.com/ http://www.superbikeschool.com/ http://www.penguinracing.com/ http://www.schwantzschool.com/ another idea, that i did this past weekend, is go to a dirtbike school. teaches you all kinds of new skills that will work on the street too http://www.dirtbikeschool.com have fun! Hey Dako.. Of the ones listed by Dora, the only one that I KNOW is a 'street riding school' primarily is CLASS. I think the others focus more on racing and tactics, although I'm not sure about all of them. I've attended CLASS and it's a great time with too much to learn in just one day. So if possible do multiple days. Then, once you've gotten the basics from them down, start looking at track time where there are 'coaches' out there to help you fine tune your skills. I've been doing Team Pro-Motion track days and have only occasionally been seen pestering the teaching/coaching staff with questions. So add http://www.teampromotion.com to the list of places to look at for a little help, they are of course, 'race' oriented, so once again I suggest starting with the 'street' school unless you're planning on going racing. |
