Did it right last year but it's leaking again. I polished the tube (it had no pits but had faint vertical scratches in an area about 1/2" wide & 4" long. They were so faint that I couldn't feel them with my fingernail. I wondered if the brake dust did it. Hmmm, what to do, what to do? Any experience with this? Thanks, De |

This "used" to happen to me every Spring. The cause: insects. Their exoskeleton tears the oil seal as they fork tubes run up and down their bodies. The fix: pop off the dust seal very carefully with a plastic edge so you don't scratch the fork tube. Clean under this area thoroughly. Spray the fork tube with silicone spray -- it prevents the insects from sticking to the tubes and it helps the dust seal do its job. I do this at every oil change and monthly during Spring and Summer (I use my helmet visor as a gauge to the "activity" of insects). Since I've done this I haven't had a single leak. I've tried the NOJ fork protectors but they didn't work. Word of caution: if you get fork oil run down to the caliper it will form a pasty goop as it combines with brake dust. This will prevent the brake piston seals from retracting into the caliper and it causes a very spongy brake lever. If this happens then you need to rebuild the caliper, but it's an easy job. |

I had my left M2 tube leak a while back. Wound up replacing tghe tube. The micro scratches were enough to cause leakage. Cheap, about $45 for the new tube. The USD type forks may be more though... Brad |

Mine leaked 3 times. I always thought it was due to the exposed fork tubes. |

What's with these post dates? I'm sure that it was last year when I replaced the right front seal. & cover. It's now June '06 and it's leaking again. Drat. Good idea on the silicone spray but of course I said last year that I would clean the tube after each ride but I didn't do it. Maybe after this time, I'll clean it & spray it after each ride-but probably not. Later,,, De |

What is it about the right tube that it leaks? 2 of my tubers right tubes weep constantly. Not enough to drip. Just a slight bit of oil. Never has happened on the left. |

Just lost the right tube again on the S3T. I rebuilt both of them 2 years ago. Did both the S1W tubes last year. With 3 Buells in the garage, it seems like a never-ending process of fixing something! |
