Well I hadn't got to do any riding this weekend, so I decided to so this afternoon. Took the loooong way out through the country. Kinda just fumbling along in top gear when I come to a dead end road, but it has a sign that says 'North Carolina Air Museum'. I figured what the hay, give me a chance to cool off and stretch the legs. Pulled into a little airport and saw this plane waiting to be photographed:

Went inside to be pleasently surprised:

Right away I noticed that there were no ropes or barricades. The walls were lined with original newspapers from the WWI,WWII era. They had uniforms, guns, etc... from all sides of the wars.

This is a picture of the owner(curator) after getting his Wings, that is Ginger Roberts picture on the wall behind him. My favorite was the Marauder:

You found a nice destination U4

way cool, I believe that the 1st pic is an
f86 I dont think that its the d mod ( no radar dome,) the F86 is the first US war plane using swept wing tech and jet engines

the engines used in that plane were radial flow VS modern jets which were axial flow.
The right thing is not always the easy thing, but its always the best thing,

Carolina Girls, oh yea!

This was very interesting to see, considering they were to be destroyed.

One of 14 cylinders on the Marauder. This was one of 4 he had on a shelf. Then looking inside another:

It hit me in the eyes when I started to look at all the other items in the building.

Signed by those crew members of one plane who made it home before the end of WWII.
My grandfather served in the Navy during WWII, served on the USS Essex, seening this made me feel good:

Being that it was Memorial Day I kinda just wondered around taking in everything, when the owner came out and talked to me for about an hour, talking about each of the planes, what he had done, who owned each plane, and the fate of each of them. I took over 100 pictures and still didn't cover 1/2 of the articles they had on hand. Time to leave and realized that he stayed there about 30 minutes passed closing just to talk. He was very enthused to hear that Erik named most of his bikes after warbirds. Liked the engineering that went into the XB, even noted the 'jackpoint' of one of the planes vs the jackpoint of the bikes. Good day, stopped out in the middle of nowhere to take this picture:

All in all I rode about 160 miles today, took the straight line home which turned out to be 42 miles, the rest were spent turning west then north, till I ran into the museum. Figured I had a euphoric afternoon, time to call it a day.

very nice pictures! Thanks for posting those. I absolutely love old warbirds. Also any dedication to those that died to give my country freedom is great too!

Very nice, perhaps you could post a location/directions so others can find the place too, when they're out that way.

Thanks, it was very enjoyable, to say the least. Here is a link to the site map:

Search around on the site, it is pretty informative.

Rbrdwn-Many more for us in the future!
They said if a group of ten or more show up, they reduce admission price to 3 bucks each. C-3 stop maybe?

Need to clear up the email my father sent me, it was not written by him, just forwarded to him. It is a very touching story about Marines! Let me know if you want it. JIM
