No matter your feelings on what's going on around the world. Support the troops. Politically right or wrong they are serving you with their necks on the line.

Some of us retired and former service members will be marching on monday

For those of you in the Daytona Beach area, I'd like to invite you to our VFW post on Memorial Day for food and fun. (I'll even throw in a cold malted beverage)
VFW Post 3282 in Port Orange. Hope to see you there.

Not to stir up a hornets nest here or make bodyshot feel bad as I know the intentions are good but as far as I'm concerned everything should be shut down for the day. And I mean everything, people have truly forgotten what the day stands for and wishes you a "Happy Memorial Day" and wondeful sales at the mall WTF is this world coming to? Theres nothing happy about it except the fact that you made it. Hats off to all my brothers in arms, past, present and future.

We in America don't deal well with hard realities anymore. We now want to change channel.

I remember once at a Memorial Day barbecue, a WW2 vet was on hand. He gave a little impromptu speech right after we gave thanks for the food. He even brought a page or two to read from. He planned this. He began to weep as he tried to explain to the little kids that men died to protect their future and freedom. He was weeping from experience. But the little kids weren't listening and the parents weren't keeping them quiet. I told them to "be quiet!" several times.

Nobody in that room seemed to understand the solemnity of that moment or the honor of that man. It was a sad commentary. But I regailed him after his talk and gave him all the attention and respect I had.

Thanks Guys,
Too many forget what the holiday means, besides a long weekend.

A tip of the hat to those that served so well,
Those that gave all they had to give you what you have.

Good on 'ya Jon. You did the right thing.
I'd rather sweat than bleed, wouldn't you?
White is definitely the FASTEST color Buell.

Good point Jon.. reminds me of a picture out on the net somewhere of a Memorial Day parade. Colors were being presented and the only person standing was an old man in a wheelchair. Damn shame how things get so commercialized and true meanings get put on the back burner all in the name of the almighty dollar.

God bless the United States. God bless the United States Constitution. God bless all who defend that Constitution against all enemies, foriegn and domestic. That document may not last forever, but I hope it lasts until I'm long dead and gone.

I don't need a special holiday to be grateful for the sacrefices made by others so that I can run amok, fly gliders, balloons, and play motorcycle. I do not go a day without thinking how lucky I am.

On Monday we will go swimming, fire up the grill, ride motorcycles and enjoy the day with our families in peace.

One thing is certain... there will be none of that in Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afganistan and countless other "Muslim kingdoms" around the World.

Maybe that's why they hate us? We are very lucky thanks to the sacrifices of our veterens.

I just lost a friend in Iraq a few days ago. His name was Doug DiCenzo, and he was one of the best guys you could ever meet. He was killed by an IED in Baghdad on the 25th.

I know that none of you knew him, but please take the time to remember him, and pray for his wife and 15-month-old child.

I just found out this morning. Needless to say, this is just about the worst Memorial Day ever.

If anyone gets a chance, take a trip to your local cemetary today, there are bound to be some vets buried there, place a pot of flowers by their headstone, and have a moment of slince/ prayer, whcihever you prefer...

Memorial day, wasnt even a recognized national holiday unitl 1971...

And already, most people forget what its original meaning is..

I am acitve, my uncle was in Nam, and my gandfather was in world war 2, landed on Iwo Jima, etc, etc, etc his list of battle citations is impressive, never knew that abuot my grandfather until his funeral.....(both were marines, and wouldnt let me be a marine)

On another note, gow to a VFW post, or an american legion post, buy a vet a couple drinks, and tlak with him, allow him to reflect...

For those that have seen action, this is a solemn day, for remembering fallen brothers in arms...among other things...BUT not, to go out and buy a new car, or go shopping...

Now, to raise a toast, to all my brothers and sisters in arms, and those who have gone before us...

Thank you...

My memorial day is good. I took my clan out to breakfast after hanging the flag out front, then took Dad out to lunch.

Came home, played football catch with my boys and did domestic home improvements while the wife shopped.

Took my Yamaha YZF400 out for her maiden voyage, barbecued hotlinks and polish dogs while Military brass music blared on my stereo...neighborhood kids over for dinner...prayer of thanks for the food and sacrifices of those who have died protecting our freedoms.

Now I'm a Sam Adams man. The kids are playing out front...two WW2 era military planes have flown over head...my kids says they were bombers..they would know, believe me.

My simple snap shot of American life and freedom is sacred today.

Cheers.
