i think this seat needs more of a comfert zone. Does anyone know anyone who makes a differnt seat for this bike yet?? Mostly 2 up it really stinks, my wife is pushing me way to far up under braking! | ||

I had the same problem with a Corbin seat on my BMW. A friend mentioned trying a small piece of thin rubber mat which you put under rugs to keep them from sliding on wood floors. They're very thin and have an open lattice to them. Once we tried it, no more problem! I think you can get it at Walmart. Glenn | ||

How about: "Plan your stops and stop braking so hard?"  Seriously, my Sweetie has no complaints whatsover with the stock seat on the Lightning Long, and that's a good thing since NOBODY makes a seat for that bike yet. I just make it a point to pay that much more attention to what's going on up ahead so I don't have to brake hard. That's always a good plan with a passenger anyway as the increased weight will lengthen your stopping distance too (although you're less likely to "stoppie" with a passenger). | ||

hell its not just under braking, most of the time its when i down shift.. and sometime breaking.. i do slow down way in advance but it seems she creeps up on me after awhile of just normal riding.. We need a new seat Buell!!!!!! Even though im 6'3". i would like to see a seat curved about a half inch lower to fit my butt into better. Maybe that woould keep her back some!! | ||

Another option would be to take your seat pan to a custom saddle builder and discuss your needs with him. I can highly recommend these guys on Long Island as I've had them recover (not reshape) my K1200LT SofTouch saddle and I have a few friends who DID have their saddles reshaped: http://www.phoenixinteriors.com/ | ||

they make this grip pad just for XBs for the passenger. My bike came with one and I dont use it, its for sale.  thats a pic from the previous owner when he was selling it. I have the grip thingy sitting in the garage along with other things i pulled off. (Message edited by statik on May 30, 2006) | ||

Yup. Longer and wider in the back. If you look at the available luggage for the Lightnings on the Buell pages, every single one of them except the tankbag says "Fits all XB12S and XB9S models EXCEPT the XB12Ss Lightning Long." Very discouraging. How long is it gonna take Buell to fix this glaring omission, anyway?? | ||

Yep! I would like some side bag for my Long too. But on the other hand I really like my seat on my long, very comfy. | ||

I take it that your complaint is just to do with the passenger seating? I've got about 650 miles on my Ss since buying it last Friday and my seat is comfy... I've only had a passenger on for a short while and didn't notice anything odd when accelerating or decelerating albeit at low speed. There were no complaints but I'd figure that the passenger pegs are too high to be of much use in staying put other than to rest the feet so they don't flop, it definitely doesn't seem to be a two up tourer. | ||

The seat on my Ss is the most comfortable XB seat that I have ever sat on including the Corbin and Buell after market ones. It almost feels like a gel seat to me. I must admit however, that I REALLY don't like how it looks. It just has no style whatever. It's quite functional but they just missed the mark visually. | ||

yeah the style isnt great. I was talking about 2 up riding and it is comfy for me. Just the wife moves to much while riding due to braking and accelerating | ||

Then I think any seat shop (or maybe upholstery?)should be able to add some non-skid back part on the long seat like the above picture of a removeable one. Style is another thing and is in the eye of the beholder, take a gander at the buell/Duck thread. I like the look of the stock seat, with the bob-job anyway, sort of modern retro. I'm not partial to the gun-slinger look. | ||

seargent cycles in florida does exc. seat work.I had my xb12s recovered there. they can change foam as well. Its not cheap but they do good work. their website is something like seargentcycles. com I believe | ||

http://www.sargentcycle.com/default2.html I'll second Sargent for getting your seat re-done. They have a cover material called "Griptex" that's probably just what you're looking for. You can get your seat recovered with Griptex panels for about $90 plus shipping. Upgraded foam, changes to the seat profile, etc. are extra. Look under "custom seat services" for details. If you don't want to do without your bike while your seat's being re-worked, find a cheap stock one on ebay and send that one in. |
