Not that I wouldn't have not been one, but I may have been Buell-less for awhile. A few months ago I had offered to sell my '99 S3 to a 20yr.-old neighbor who has been lusting over it since he took my daughter out a couple of years ago. I told him that I wasn't real comfortable putting a completely new rider on that type of bike. When he brought his dad over last week (a Harley rider) his dad asked me my honest opinion and I told him that I felt that he should really buy a Kawasaki 500 Ninja that was in the paper as a starter. It looks like they listened because the boy called me to say he bought the Ninja. I really hated to sell the S3 because of all the memories on that bike but I figured that if I wanted to pick up one of the new ones that was the only way I could swing it. I just remember so many guys saying that they had that special bike that they wished they never would have sold. It looks like I still have mine. p.s. Come on now, a REAL Bueller would have recommended a Blast.  Glad they took your advise, seems most people don't look at learning logically. I see people buying bikes WAY over their ability almost everyday. | ||

Good job. You did the right thing and the kid will benefit from your wisdom. He'll be able to move up to a bigger bike soon enough. Al is right, too many new riders end up in over their head buying too much bike just because they (or Mom and Dad) can afford it, and the magazines say it's the "Best Ever!" You have to learn to walk before you can run (unless you're fond of scars and hospital stays) I'd rather sweat than bleed, wouldn't you? White is definitely the FASTEST color Buell. | ||

When he first started showing an interest I suggested a Blast but he wanted a sportbike. Any surprise there? The only reason I even thought about letting him have it is that he is a very good drummer so I figured that coordination wasn't an issue. He wanted to ride it real bad but I told him that he couldn't until he had his license. I did let him ride my DR650 around for awhile until I found out that he didn't even have his permit. |
