well i have a 2005 xb9sx and just got to death valley . And just today my speedometer stoped working. No big deal just go with the flow I guess. Anyway i went through from front to back and checked the connections and wires for corrosion breaks and bare wire , no visible dammage. I also removed the speed sensor and cleaned some minor metal shavings ,still with no luck . No other problems just looking for sugestions if nothing works im going to get a new sensor and see if that takes care of it . Thanks |

check the KV on this one. I seem to remember some trouble with the 5vdc power to the speedo sensor a while back. |

I had the same problem on my XB9R... just replace the speedo sensor ($50) and it will fix it. Seems to be a common problem. |

My bike has went thru 2 speed sensors. My buell tech says he sees it all the time buells and HDs. Its easy to replace yourself, quick process. I only had 5 miles on my bike and then, WOW I was going "150" in 50 when I drove it home from the dealership! Yeah going "150" on my buell and a neon passed me like i was backing up. |

Long story short, contact Dave Steuve sponsor here,, he will sell you the updated sensor and the upgrade kit to prevent the sensor from damage. Look in the KV, you'll find all you need there. |

The only XB's with the chronic problem are 03 9r's. The S bikes were fixed from the get-go, the 04's and up were all fixed. Most tubers have a fragile setup, though some seem more problematic then others, and voltage regulator problems will make things worse. I have a schematic for a regulator to fix it in the knowledge vault, but (hindsight being 20 20) I figured out a better way. Go to your local wal-mart / target / whatever, and pick up a $11 cell phone adapter. Find one that puts out 5v or more. Do the appropriate disections and taping to make it weatherproof and solder it in, and you have a nice little regulator nice and cheap to protect your $50 speedo sensor. |
