Has anyone ridden one of these wicked looking machines from BMW? Man, that is an awesome looking bike. Somewhat resembles the Buell XB12S models. 168 horses and 98 foot pounds of torque, claims to be the fastest "naked" street-bike EVER!! BMW's quote is....Mind bending power, lol. I just may have to visit a local BMW dealership to "test-ride" one of these K1200R's. First hand knowledge or experience anybody? | ||

I have a 2006 k1200r and it is awsome!! Crazy fast and very comfortable!! I got it for long distance touring and the bags are great. Also the ESA is easy to use. There is not much out there that can touch this bike in a drag race. Also it is no slouch in the corners. The bike is very long and is hard to wheelie, as a result you can really get on it off the line. Really on of the best bikes I have ever been on. | ||

I rode the K1200S (faired version of the R) a couple of times. Fine machine, awesome power and aerodynamics. That said, I bought the R1200st. Better suits my style. The new generation Boxer rocks. | ||

I rode a K1200R in WNC last year. Great bike. Amazing motor. He still couldn't hang with me through Deal's Gap though. (though I'm sure some riders can blow my doors off with a Vespa). | ||

There are a couple K1200R's around here, really nice machine. I sat on K1200S when my R1200RT was in for service, me likey to much. If I waited a few month I would have gotten the K1200GT, but the oil head boxer suits me. I see a pattern developing here. | ||

it looks to me like a station wagon With that statement, it gives an indication that have never seen or sat on a K1200R. Take a ride by a BMeer dealer check one out, you would be surprised and they give test rides. | ||

my city is plenty of them, they are not that surprising/impressive to my tastes and yes I saw them in person and I sat on them. I didn't ride them though, and I don't regret it that much again, xb rulez ciao | ||

Nate Kern makes the bike look small and nimble. Hell, he makes a boxer look small and nimble as he wins nearly every race he is in. Great rider, but don't think these bikes are not formidable race machines, because they are. BMW has a long history of turing out race machines. The new 1200 boxer has 122 RWHP out of an air cooled motor that is a rather old design. Nothing to be sneezed at, fer' sure...although they are not my cup o' tea either. jimidan | ||

this bike if very, very fast (just tested one last week) -- now, it won't make the top of any stunta's list, and the price will keep the wife-beater and zori crowd away, but don't, for a minute, think it ain't Milleneum Falcon fast, cuz it is not what I'd buy, morenlikely, but not due to a lack ofr performance | ||

The BMW website has the K1200R as base price of $14,300. I have seen them at a shop for about $16,000, a few bells and whistles added. I think there is a 600 mile service and the next service is 6000 miles. | ||

I have ridden both, and decided on the S instead of the R. Much better wind protection on the S (especially if you plan to tour), and I prefer the seating position. Have had the bike since last July, and other than it scaring the SH!t out of me (scary fast), its an AWESOME motorcycle. Also, the ESA option is worth every penny! I like the looks, but that thing is way too long! A fellow showed up on one for race school a couple of weekends ago...goes real good in a straight line, but dogs it through the corners (although, as we all know, the rider has as much - more - to do with finesse than the bike, right?). I can't get used to anything longer than my Buell...everything else just seems too big and clumsy! I think my 9S was about half as long as that BMW! | ||

I disagree, the beemer handles very well in the corners. You just need to get used to that front end paralever. There is not as much feel as with a conventional fork. But you are right about how long it is. Both bikes sit next to each other in my office! Wish I had a pic to post of them. I also agree with you the buell turns faster but the bmw doging in the corners, nah. Maybe like you said, just the guy riding it. | ||
