Take a peek at this Ebay ad - I'm seriously considering making an attempt at this bike - have been considering buying new, but not quite sure I can spend $10500 + tax right now. What do you think of this baby: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280000191151 Two things I notice is the brake/clutch levers are at different angles... been dropped? (doesn't look like the tank is scratched whatsoever). Would someone adjust these to be like this? The other is the muffler - what the heck did the PO do? Looks like the paint is worn off in spots - its only 8 months old - can't imagine its rusted through that quick - he must have done something to it. Looks like it has been sitting outside - the clutch shaft has some rust on it. Also the seat looks a bit creased. I'm not gonna pick apart a used bike (I understand it isn't going to be perfect)- I'm just trying to get the most info I can out of the pictures... figured you guys' trained eyes can offer some insite! The seller is a wholesaler, so he can't offer any history on the bike - but with a warranty and a few thousand off MSRP, might be worth a gamble. Would work out perfect for me to pick up - I'll be driving right by it next week for vacation. Thanks a lot guys! | ||

Looks pretty clean. And looks like it was rode fairly easy, see the large chicken strips. | ||

I adjust my levers the same way. Wrist not bent for the brake lever, slightly bent for the clutch, Don't see any problem with that. | ||

My levers are adjusted similarly. That bike doesn't seem to show any signs of being dropped (scratched swingarm, pegs, primary, bar ends, bent bars...). But of course those can be replaced. Even so, it looks like a nice bike. Go for it. | ||

I bought my 3,600 mile 2004 XB12R from them for $6100 on eBay. They're 140 miles up the pike from me. There was a slightly nicer deal in Georgia but I wasn't going to buy a used bike that far away. I wouldn't have been able to make more than one trip if I had to. I waited for a Saturday and took my family. They didn't have the key and had made up a jumper plug to substitute (which they didn't tell me about), and when I got there, I said I couldn't take it that way because the key was also needed to tank up (of all the things I thought might go wrong, this wasn't one of them), so we drove back home (the guy insisted on giving me $20 for gas which covered us one way) and waited for the key to come in before I handed over the cashier's check. From the huge amount of steel fuzz on the primary drain plug, the bike hadn't had its 1,000 mile visit (which to be fair wasn't the dealer's fault). Also it really needed tires, and the ones on it were underinflated (I should have brought a tire gauge). They weren't quite ready for me when I came the second time, either. They hadn't gotten it inspected (which they said they would), and we had to wait until they rode off and did that (at the HD dealer maybe 1/4 mi down the road), plus there were a couple of little things I'd asked for they hadn't done, and I didn't have time to hang around for them. Bottom line for me, I got my money's worth in terms of a bike with a lot of miles left in it at a good price. (Message edited by kurosawa on May 16, 2006) |
