In about 2nd gear going between 30-50 my xb12r firebolt is real jerky, kinda like it's missing.. I have replaced the plugs and cleaned the air filter and that didn't work.. What you think????

Try having your dealer do a TPS reset. It sounds like the fuel injection system is surging.

Always keep your rev's up between 2500 and
3000 RPM ...

I just posted this in another thread, but it applies here as well (same topic):

"I know I'm late to this party, but My 12Ss has the exact same issue, and has from the moment I got it. I thought it was just the twitchy throttle to begin with, but after I got used to the sensitivity, I realized there was more involved. Now 5 months later, it's worse than ever. I've taken it to the local dealership, and they told me they couldn't even feel a problem (I know, I bring this up in every post... sorry!).

My exact symptoms: a splutter-surge when holding the throttle steady at any RPM, especially from 2000 to 3500. Especially noticeable in lower gears, I think because the gear ratio allows the surge to push the bike around a little more. I haven't made it into the shop again for the TPS reset just yet, but I have high hopes that that will clean it up.

There's no way that this is a normal and expected thing on Buells. I've read every magazine article I can find on the XBs, and 2 things are very clear: 1) The sportbike world likes Buell, but despises the fact they are powered by H-D engines, and 2) Not one of them has mentioned a rough engine at lower rpms.

Now, don't you think those same writers would be jumping on the chance to bash the Harley engine for roughness if they could? I've seen alot of them fuss about the low top end and the fact they're air cooled, but not one has mentioned the problem discussed here. That fact alone tells me it's not NORMAL, just COMMON."

Put an aftermarket exhaust and free flowing intake on any fuel injected bike, or even most any bike period, and you'll likely suffer similar issues. Try the race ECM or one of the EFI augmentation modules or the Direct Link EFI remapping utility.

My 12,000 mile 12R is in the Shop now for the same issue. Its been that way since day 1. At 3000 RPM you can see the Tach fluctuate about 150 RPM up and down. I found a bad plug wire and changed it hoping that was my fix but it didn't change anything. If its fixed, I'll let ya know what they did.

Is it an engine-miss kinda feeling, or a driveline-lash kinda feeling?

Couldn't a herky-jerky ride be caused by one or more of these driveline components: primary chain out of adjustment, worn belt tensioner, worn cush drive?

Is your check engine light coming on?
My X1 had similar problems, and checking the code, I found that it was the Engine Temp. Sensor. A new sensor, and It was running like a champ again! The light did not always come on, but it seemed to happen about the same speed range as you are describing.

My XB12 misses, sputters, and runs like crap at steady legal speeds also. anything under 70 miles per hour is very annoying. have been putting up with it now for 19,000 miles and it is wearing very thin. have lately replaced the intake seals and oxygen sensor... no change. have used 3 different ECM's all work about the same.

Proper TPS reset/rezero? Verify proper timing sensor setup?
