Hi All My buddy just purchased an 04 gs500f. I have a 05 blast with V&H pipe and carb kit. I was just wondering if anyone knew how the suzuki's were for performance. I know its a twin and revs higher but will he be able to outperform me that bad? |

Yes and No. It has about a 7 Hp advantage on your bike, about 30 lbs more weight, and a few MPH more top speed. He shouldn't trounce you if you are a more experienced rider than he is. If he is more exeperienced, than it is going to be a lot tougher to keep up. James |

I owned a gs500e same bike without the fairing, & must say the quarter mile time stock is around 13sec where as ours (stock) is high 15sec. (With 180 pound riders yada yada.)I got rid of mine because it was too much temptation. If you are a better rider, you could take him in the corners though! |

Diesel379, With your carb kit did you drill out the vacuum port on the slide? And if you did what size did you drill it out to? |

The gs rider's bike is top heavy & will send him sliding into the tank when he's hard on the brakes, so take advantage of the Blast's perfect balance in the corners! Pick a "track" that has really sharp corners, when he hits the brakes he'll be too busy climbing off of his instrument cluster to think about riding! Lol! Otherwise better to go after realistic competition. Blow away some Royal En fields, Honda Rebels, B.S.A, old Triumphs, and almost any car! Remember, the engine in our bike is a slight update of a really old design meant to be fun & effecient, don't make it look bad by comparing it to bikes in a different league altogether. Even the Ninja 250R has a slightly higher quarter mile time, but it is a high tech water cooled 14,000 r.p.m. revving machine. The Blast is still more fun. |

Thanks for the responses a everyone. Swampy, I had a mechanic friend of mine install the carb kit so i couldn't tell you what it is drilled out to. I only know it is the V&H carb kits with the jets for an aftermarket exhaust. |

If you could find out, post it! How is it running? |

Swampy, it runs great in my opinion. Shifting from first to second is always a shakey shift, but the motor runs strong. I can't believe the difference the pipe made. I am constantly hitting the rev limiter, whereas before I never had. |

This page says to drill it out to 1/8" http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hd_cv_mods.htm I didn't drill mine or shim the metering rod, but I think I might do those things when I change the intake setup. I did install the SE spring that's listed on this page: http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdcvcarbappendix.htm#adjustable_idle_screw |

Mike_the_bike: "BUELLschitte", the BLAST is fool proof and idiot proof, "BUT" not Harley-Davidson technician proof or Factory Service Manual proof(ie: primary chain adjustment is too tight) ... You will never find a group 250 Ninja riders like BLASTers ... If you show up in their area they will make every effort to ride with you ... If you (GOD Forbid) break down in their area will make every effort to help you ... It is almost like being a "MARINE" !!! In BLASTing LaFayette |
