It's time to stand up and be heard guys, everyone worldwide. I'm surprised that BUELL don't offer a feedback forum to see if the riders of BUELL motorcycles (XB Class) want a scoop made, I'm sure if they got enough names/orders then they would consider making a die and producing some, then add it to all future bikes, they would soon make back the costs on all aftermarket sales and future sales. Lets face it guys, BUELL will only authorise genuine BUELL products, they have all the secrets, designers and most of the groundwork knowledge, who's to know some BUELL designer didn't produce a Right SCOOP model, and it's sitting on a PC server. AWAITING PRODUCTION. So let’s get some big names together to head this. (sales reps, distributor managers) I'm sure BUELL would listen to some high flyer sales reps, which sell their damn product. After all if we the little people speak up, and say.. WE WANT A RIGHT SCOOP, same material same colour. It would be considered. I'm sure some of the site sponsors would agree. That’s my 2c on this whole issue. |

Are you certain that it doesn't work better without a right side scoop? |

Im all for a right hand side Air Scoop and and you raise some good points but as "buyers" and "investers" of the Buell brand i think we ARE the BIG NAMES!!! Shortly after buying my City X , i recieved a Questionaire from Buell, asking about my experience as a buyer. This questionaire said that my feed back was very important to them and if i wanted to raise anything else i should include it on a seperate piece of paper and they would get back to me. Thats the last i heard from them!!!!!!!!!!! When i buoght the bike i asked the Salesman what he thought of the model, he replied " i'd buy one to blow up". Not exactly helpful or respectfull. So my theory is , once you've bought the bike YOUR ON YA OWN.Im not bitter though (yeah right!!! ). |

I WANT A RIGHT SCOOP!!! even if it's not 'needed', I want one! I can't see how it would hurt, afterall, it's directing more air into the cooling fins and since these are air cooled engines, it's gotta help even a little...not to mention, it balances the look of the bike from the front. |

I have a right side air scoop from American Sport Bike and I know for a fact the fan does not run while riding, only after the engine is off. I have not had a chance to see what it's like during the peak of summer but I know it has improved air flow to the rear cylinder. |

You know it had to cross their mind at the factory. Balance is a design consideration. I wonder if there is a reason they chose not to install one, other than a reduced production cost. I know the nickels and dimes add up on the assembly line, but was there more to it than that? I would love to see an annony with some insight weigh in on this and tell us what the deal is. I don't think anyone will be upset if it was a cost point decision, but we'd like to know one way or another. |

I would like to see someone use the VDSTS palm and record the ET (engine temp)and run some comparison tests during the same weather conditions to see the difference between stock right cover, no right cover and right side scoop. Results might be unexpected. I am still concerned that by changing the thermal dynamics on a stock engine w/stock module then power, mileage and emissions will all suffer. |

i have a laser temp gun, if there's someone in the south FL(WPB) area with a second scoop we could both go for a ride, get the bikes nice and hot and then measure the temps on both, my engine without a scoop and his with a scoop to see if there is a diff. |

Should be done on the same bike for better consistency, but I'd love to see the data. |

I have a meat thermometer! Anyone want to send me a scoop so I can begin to compile data? Or a Special Ops can? I'm sure I could use one of those too! |

This is nuts! If this did happen, what makes y'all think it would be less expensive then the ones offered. Just take a look at what's already offered through Buell, none of that stuff is inexpensive. Hell, what's a black brake lever cost, something like $80 bucks? I can get one from the aftermarket world for $15 at Cycle Gear... After market rules! |

Daywalker, i'm digging but no dice yet. I'm not technical enough to explain but the smaller scoop on the right works with the rest of the system in place... left scoop + fan... creating a specific flow of air... maybe someone smarter can remember but i'm still digging... it was an interesting series of posts on the right scoop. i stopped wanting one after reading it. they look cool though EDIT: found some explaination from Lightning_strikes_now, gets at the same points discussed in the thread i'm looking for... "Guys, the single air scoop design on the stock XB's has a purpose. The engine is cooling better than you think. The larger single air scoop blows air on the rear cylinder creating a sworling turbulance in the engine cavity of the frame. Heat transfer is drastically increased by this sworling turbulance. The hot air then exits through the fan port and a small amount under the set. If you put a large air scoop on the other side of the engine, your creating a damming effect to the more equalized pressure in the engine cavity. The air then piles up around the rear cylinder with less sworl and movement. The additional air imput has nowhere to escape due to the limited exit area through the fan and seat." EDIT2: i'm out of time cant find that thread... only found a small additional comment from Anony "It helps cooling. Really. Tested in 120 ambient in Arizona." Yes the stock parts from Buell are a very good bargain. I thought we were talking about the accessory type goodies. My bad |

I could be wrong but, I like the looks of a right side scoop, BUT I will take the extra few miles of dependability by keeping what Eric put on the bike cause I don't have a Lab to test all the results of changing AIR FLOW. BUT If you GOTTA have one there are plenty of Right side scoops to be found. http://www.americansportbike.com |

I follow you on the damming effect of an extra scoop on the right side. Makes perfect sense, except, if so, why are peoples fans [who have one] not running *more*. And I've not once heard any of them complain about increased temps in the saddle. I still wonder more about the shrouding effect you might place on the front cylinder. Rear may run cooler at the expense of the front running hotter... |

If a right scoop was an improvement over the original XB design, I believe it would been added by this point on either the 04, 05 or 06 models as an "improvement" and as a selling point... |

The turbulent air thing seems to make sense maybe the guys taking the temperatures with the laser thermometer could confirm that. Thanks for looking it kinda confirmed what I was thinking. |

"buell factory parts are the best value over any other motorcycle manufacture!" You can replace all three shifter forks for less than $100! I thought for sure they were going to be $100 each. Thanks Daves. |

"If a right scoop was an improvement over the original XB design, I believe it would been added by this point on either the 04, 05 or 06 models as an "improvement" and as a selling point..." You are right! That is why they have been improving the HP on the engine each year since 03, because we have been asking them to. Huh you say? They HAVEN"T been increasing HP each year! Right again. |
