Hey all, I managed to get out there on Sunday, arrived early enough to find 'my racers' and a few others and got my info together to plan my shoots. Unfortunately, I only got through two races before Mr. Murphy came to visit. I was downloading images from races 1 and 2 when my nice Nikon D70 and the 500mm lens I was using took a dive to the hard ground. Snapped off the lens from the body and basically killed the camera. DAMN! So, I've only got a few pictures to post this time around. Not only did the camera end up deep sixed, but (as with all top rate electronics when mistreated) that didn't end my problems. The body died and I lost about 60 images from the chip. I tell you, I felt soooo stupid. So here are some of the pictures I did get. As always, I had to crush them to post them on the board. So please forgive the low resolution on these. Hopefully, someone will sign on later and give results as I (a humble badwebber/photographer) only take the pictures.. hehehehehe... |

SUNDAY - May 7th - As I said, I got there early and managed to get a few shots in the pit area. First off, there was the Edison Buell Team - working on some minor problems following a get off on Saturday.
Note the new body work on the bike - Hmmmm Roanoke Valley was there -
with two bikes, a nine in black and a twelve dressed in red. The red bike needed a little checking over as James was switching to it for the day (I think like I said, I left early)
For those of you that don't get to the races very much.. in the early AM, the pit area is actually quite peaceful..
Art Diaz from Classic H-D was there, he's been having problems though and they were trying to get it all sorted out.
I hear he took a third? As I'm typing this, results aren't yet posted at CCS' website. There was a trio of friends pitted together, on three different era Buells.
Believe it or not, look who sponsored this guy.. sort of..
The same dealer where they said Buell owners should be shot. As some of you may already know, I've been doing a couple of track days with Team Pro-Motion. There were a couple TPM riders there and I managed to get a few shots of a couple of them on the track.. So, I'll start with those - This is Nate Kern, doing what he does-
Despite crashing early in the day, he would come back and dominate the races he was in.
He's a great rider and BMW is lucky to have him..
BamBam also from TPM was there.. So naturally, I got a couple of shots of him as he did his thing..
Lookin' pretty good there Bam..
Here's James from Roanoke Valley (Buelrcr)
That 163 bike was huggin' kinda close, trying to get past..
But a lap later.. well.. I don't think he managed to keep up. James was rollin' pretty strong...
Lookin' pretty good on the red machine,
don't ya think? Here comes another one, trying to catch him..
and a lap later, the gap is closing..
Not sure what happened, but he's not chasing anyone..
See..
and there's nobody behind him either..
Keep up the good work James. Also making an appearance was Jeff, from Winchester H-D Buell -
on his number 400 Firebolt. It took less then a lap to open that pack up huh Jeff..
Yeah, he's gettin' faster, every time he goes out..
Catching up too.. the number 96 bike..
96 must have thought that since he had the inside line, he didn't have to worry..
That's right, make him feel..
Comfortable..
After all, only some sort of mad man hooligan passes on the outside of the carousel.. right?
That's right..
Only a half mad, ridin' hooligan passes on the outside there.. hehehehehe...
Keep up the good work Jeff.. As to the rest of you.. I apologize for not being able to shoot the rest of the races.. But I'll make it up to you.. as soon as I get the new camera. After all, Monday the 29th I'm back at Summit Point to shoot those races as well.. and yes, I'll hang on to my camera a bit better...I promise.. |

from the post above with pics. After all, only some sort of mad man hooligan passes on the outside of the carousel.. right? bah. nice quote. a "mad man" took me out of saturday practice at blackhawk CCS passing me on the outside of the carousel. we simply went for the same patch of pavement and at speed, leaned over, it was instant disaster when the bikes touched. ended up with his stickers leaving a red smear on my bellypan, my bellypan paint on his bike and his kneepuck, his brake lever was found later INSIDE my bellypan...we were definitely tangled up! we both did some tumbling - ouch! my bike went down first on the inside of the turn so it really only slid around. his bike went over mine and did some bouncing, so its in worse shape than mine D (sorry for the thread hijack - reading the commentary on the outside pass made me laugh!) You should see the Hi-Rez versions! I loose a lot of depth of field and some sharpness when I take a 5MB photo down to posting size! Dora.. Sorry to hear about your collision. Are you OK? Sounds like it could have been pretty bad, did he 'cut' you when he tried to close around you in the turn? Just curious, because I've seen 'cut turns' that got really ugly, really quickly. |

Blublak...great shots. I think I would have thrown up if I had dropped my Nikon D70 and 500mm lens. You are taking it very well man! Keep up the good work with the photos. Will you be around for the ASRA/CCs races at the end of the month? If so, I will have to look you up...it shouldn't be hard to find you. jimidan |

blublak - im doing ok. mild headaches, bruised/slightly fractured ribs on left side. leathers torn up in a lot of places due to tumbling. ding and scratches on helmet. bike wasnt too bad - a lot of cosmetic damage, broken brake lever, brake pedal, and fairing mount. hard to say if he cut me, if i drifted, or if we simply had different lines - whatever, it was a racing incident and we've both got damage to bike, gear, and self - but hey, we're crazy folk that race, so it all seems normal thanks for asking D |

Jim, Yeah, I'm bummed about it, but it happened. I just wish they'd build these a bit stronger. I could beat someone unconscious with my old F3-01 and still have it work flawlessly. Aside from the mounting ring separating from the body, taking a bunch of metal and plastic with it, the electronics took a dump and for some reason, I lost about 60 shots that were on the chip. Nothing to be gained from crying.. much.. Talked to Nikon, they will send me a recon body. I just don't know exactly how I'm going to pay for it yet. I need it though, since I have an 'assignment' to shoot Ant (Mutation_racer) on Memorial Day. Now, if only the lens is OK.. It won't be as painful.. I think.. So, one way or the other.. I'll be there.. Look for me..I'll probably have my black 'cowboy' hat on and (if I can figure out how to pay for it) a camera in hand. |

Dora.. Just take it easy for about a week, take lots of Ibuprofen (I've got 800mg tabs) and rest. The bike is easier to fix then you are. And is actually a simple matter to replace, you are not. Once you're feeling better, come down here for a race and I'll see what I can get of ya with my camera (as long as I have one). And if I don't have a digital, I'll do it the old fashioned way.. Film. It'll just take longer to get prints done. Feel better.. Smile, you're a racer now.. the rest of us will have to start asking you for advice soon.. it's too cool.. Oh and you're welcome. Anytime. |

Blublak - Was that Classic HD in Reading PA? I didn't realize they were into racing. I bought my M2 from them. |

Hey Jim, Yes, that's Classic in Reading (I'm pretty sure) Art's been racing for them for a while, has held the No.1 plate for CCS in our area and they actually have a pretty good sized race operation. Two bikes, nice trailer, etc.. How do you like the M2 so far? Haven't seen ya in a while, Robin's going to miss not having another Blast-er to terrorize the peeps at some of the events we seemed to keep ending up at. |
