Inserts key, turns, waits a moment, then presses the fun button and click! Nothing. Tried jumping the bike, when power was given to the battery, the bike would light up but not turn-over. Tried push-starting it with no luck. Recently had the TPS reset, as in last Friday. My bike ran well just prior to it not starting at all. I've read on occasion of matters such as this arising from dealer foul-ups during a TPS reset, however, the search results are quite varied and of little help. Problem is that my dealer is about 80 miles away and I need to get this bike running asap, preferably w/o any kind of trailering up there. Thoughts? Suggestions? |

How old is the battery? Are the connections to the battery terminals, starter post, ground, and cable crimps good? |

I had issues with corrosion in my fusebox. The symptoms were simmilar. Yank out the black relays in your fusebox. My contacts were fuzzy despite the fact that they looked clean on the top. My bike was clicking instead of cranking. I swapped the relays with each other "to get me home" but ummm that was 12,000 miles ago I later took out each fuse and both diodes and cleaned them and coated them with WD40 |

I will inspect these items. At first glance everything appeared to be okay, tho, this was where the bike died (local mc store where friend'o'mine works), and is currently located. It's a Jap bike store, they don't know crap about Buells and could of cared less. |

Just out of curiosity, is it even possible to push start an injected Buell with a dead or low battery? I tried to push start an injected Fatboy with a dead battery once. No way it was going to start... the stator couldn't produce enough voltage to get the injectors to work. I can push start my carbureted Cyclone with a dead battery fairly easily. |

I tried to push start my X1 once. It laughed at me. Rear wheel locked up even in 5th. |

Leo, How old the battery? My '99 Cyclone did the exact same thing. When you first turn on the key you get your lights and such but when you hit the start button everything goes out?.?. A plate has probably seperated in the batteries cell and with not much load on it completes the circuit but when large load is applied it opens that plate right up. Put a load tester on your batt. I used my volt meter and the battery showed good until as soon as the load tester was on it went to ZERO. Hope this helps. Ryan |

I had a similar problem to Ryan happen on a car battery. If the plate is separated, you will not be able to jump the bike, it's like having an open circuit. Try another battery. |

I have had similar problems with a dirty starter diode, in the fuse box under the seat looks like a little black modular fuse. Pulled it out scraped off crud and it started. Make sure kick stand is up and you have neutral light, pull clutch lever in anyway, will over ride the starter diode. Battery could be dead, rode mine home one day, all was well and 5 minutes later the lights would turn on but the battery died when the started button was pushed. Jumping should have worked with a dead battery unless it's shorted and then you would have no lights at all. My guess is the little black diode. They are polarized too, if you took one out make sure it went back in with the correct orientation! Den |
