My 98 S1Ws front rotor rattles like a leaf in a wind storm. I know its a floater but jeez, at a stoplight it sure is annoying. Is something wront or do I have to live with it. |

yea, the 6 button discs rattled like crazy. You can keep an eye on eBay for an 8 button one, you can usually get them for under $100. |

Gentlemen: The ones that get loose and rattle are the ones withe the -96 part number ... ie: ones like on the 97/98 Models ... TO STOP RATTLE: Place one WASHER 6201Y(BUELLschitte PART NUMBER BA148.9SS) on DRIVE PIN,brake PN45164-96Y push through its hole on ROTOR/CARRIER ... Then place WASHER or WASHERS 6201Y between SPRING WASHER 6553Y and WASHER 6543Y untill it does not rattle anymore ... Did this to my 97S3T and have 89K plus miles and NO RATTLE !!! >>>>They sure are proud of those washers They are excellent washers. Ordinarily they'd be priced quite a bit lower but experience shows that riders are much more confident in their brakes when they have paid a premium price for washers. Sure....we sold them at a major loss of r while but folks kept reporting that they felt uneasy using "cheap" washers. At $3.08 per washer you know you have the cat's meow of braking systems! Buy the washer already.....it's less than a Big Mac.

yea i know it`s a specialty washer, but. $19.77 tax included for 6 washers. Its cutting into my Big Mac fund. Weight (pun intended) I think i`m on to something here. If i spend the money on the washers and not the Big Macs, My braking system might not have to work so hard. Got it. Thanks for the tip Court. S1eric |

This is what the "fix" was. . time and more info has provided better solutions.
![Drive Pin Recall](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/195986.jpg) Think of the satisfaction. . . as you approach your t-shot on the #1 tee and quip to the rest of your foursome...."I'm heavily invested in Buell rotor washers". You'll be seen as keen and a shrewd investor. Helmets and brakes warrant investment.
Now....as we say in the world of brake research . . . STOP IT! P.S. - the "Drive Pin Recall" was a very special and interesting one. . . remind me to tell you sometime. . . |

Court: That was a "RECALL KIT"(as you well know) to get ride of the surclip problem because H-D Technicians did not know how to install them correctly or for that matter use the WASHers to correct rattle problem !!! This "KIT" will not correctly FIX the rattle problem unless you install correctly more WASHers PN 6201Y(BUELLschitte Part Number BA148.9SS) ... YOU SHIM UNTILL THE ROTOR DOES NOT FLOAT ANYMORE !!! Next year at "DAYTONA 2007" you can check my OEM ROTOR shiming ... |

Lafayette: Right you are. The first Buell drive pin hardware was the best. The weak link was ham fisted installations. As you know the clips have zero tolerance for being "warped" during install. |

buellistic, i believe it was the glendale group that did all my recall work, replaced my cracked swingarm, new shock etc., that did my rotor, i was still a fair newb at that time, so didn't attempt much work myself yet, until the rear head gasket blew, now i'm a regular. |

When I upgraded my '99 to the new style of rotor I had a heck of a time getting the old flat-head bolts out. That teenie allen wrench + the soft bolt + red locktite = mucho frustration. I ended up drilling a 1/4" hole then driving a torx bit into the hole. Those bolts came right out. Make sure you order the right button-head bolts with the new rotor. My shop ordered the old flat-head ones and I didn't realize I had the wrong ones until I started putting it back together. The button-head bolts are about $5.50 ea. |
