Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. Second offense tickets are $1,000 with license suspension. Beginning in July the State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense, but the SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allows insurance companies to raise their rates. This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city or state using PHOTO endorsements. The State will begin with TWO camera vans issuing tickets in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photographs of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken. Has anyone tried to use one of the laptop/computer privacy screens? If you look strait at the screen from behind, the screen is readable, if viewed at an angle, it is dark/protected. Just curious, They run $50-$100, but I figure you could cut one up and do both the bike plate and a car plate. I think they are just a prismed plastic sheet. | ||

I would think most states have laws against covering your plate. I know that when I lived up north we had to make sure we cleared the snow off of our plate before driving, because it was illegal to drive with an obscured license plate. The whole prismatic thing though - that might be do-able, because it's not technically obscured. You can read it from behind... Hmm. | ||

Or, just don't speed through the work zone. Yes, I am guilty too, but I work in the street quite often, and it scares me to death when somebody flies past me. | ||

 i can't believe they sell photo blocker spray! you must be teasing..maybe we should have one of those flip plate holders like james bond......or i'm with cochise...just don't speed through a work zone. wait till you're through it..and be aware of any suspicious looking vans...with a camera pointed at you.} | ||

The spray is junk... just go buy a can of clear spray paint and it is the same thing. Also it yellows after a short period of time. You can tell the folks that have done it to their vehicles. I had to use carb cleaner to get the junk off my tag. I tried the PhotoShield... the cop that rode behind me was not impressed $75 fine and wanted to seize it. I said show me please and just got the fine. | ||

like the man ssaid, keeping the speed down in the construction zone will do the same thing, and it's free ;-} that said, the Great State of Illinois does habitually declare vast stretches of otherwise unremarkable pavement as construction zones -- I try to put myself in the middle of a pack of traffic, and ride at about the 75 percentile of the pack's speed sadly, this is a purely economic move on the part of the state -- they've bandied statistics about illustrating the number of deaths and injuries to construction workers while working on roads -- 1 death and injury is too much, granted, but what the state did not publish was that much less than 2% of those injured or killed were involved with traffic -- the vast majority was involved in incidents with their own machinary | ||

Some form of "protection" or counter measure is not so you can speed at will in a construction zone. It's about not getting caught in a speed trap or if you blow a red light by accident, not getting busted for it by a camera. | ||

Massachusetts is pretty much ALL a work zone. Ever since the law changed to double the normal fine in a work zone that is. Taking down the signs = costs state money Leaving signs up all the time = Makes extra money (for more signs) That aside, YES just drive the legal speed though obvious traps. Costs nothing and everyone will love you. | ||

"Costs nothing and everyone will love you." Not really if you do the speed limits in my area people get very upset. Becuase your impeading the flow of traffic. I wish I had that video clip - some students at a college set out on I-75 in Atlanta they formed a line and did the speed limit. With camera's set up on the overpass. All you see is a few cars on the road. Then you begin to hear the sound of car horns. A few seconds later a wall of cars blasting horns comes into view. Some people even using the break down lanes to pass. Quite funny to watch. ??? One has to wonder why they haven't come up with some type of electronic method to control speeding. Not that I'd like that. | ||

Their making noise in the UK about possibly developing GPS based speed governors. Not really if you do the speed limits in my area people get very upset. Becuase your impeading the flow of traffic. Soon they will probably come up with speedo sensors and speed limit sign signal senders whereby whenever you pass a speed limit sign, let's say a 45mph one, a small radio will send out a short distance 45mph code, then the receiver in your car/truck/bike will check that against the reading on your speedometer and if your speedometer reading is above 45mph, let's say 50mph, it will send back a signal to the speedlimit sign with your vehicle id, your personal id from your driver's license id chip, and this info will then be sent from the speed limit sign to the state DOT/DMV where a speeding ticket will be issued and your personal checking account will automatically be debited, aka: bite me, and you won't even know about it until you try to buy a Big Mac at the local McD's with your debit card and find your cash account is depleted. Big Brother ain't nothing, just wait until Big Momma takes over. The Nanny State, it ain't some program on TV. | ||

Mid -- no idea -- my guess, since I've not received a pleading email from my HOG chapter member relative, is that it died in commitee or on the floor or whereever bills go to die -- You're local Congressperson would be your contact -- since we live in different State Congressional districts, mine different from yours remember that the bill contains provisions allowing lane splitting AND mandatory helmet useage -- | ||
