I would like to stay at a place like for a night or two during a road trip. I'm not into buying a place so I can do the same ride every weekend. But it is great to see businesses cater to motorcyclists.: Even if it seems to be a bit upity. Likely to be a big hit with the rub's (rich urban biker) (Message edited by debueller on May 03, 2006) |

Unless they have a curb or hill for me to unload my bike out of the back of my pick-up right next to a lodge, I ain't staying there. |

My wife is doing her clinicals in that area. And we might have a job offer for that location. Sweet. |

Hmmm...I dunno, I wonder how they're going to feel about open pipes and the occasional squid on a TT-50 running through the neighborhood. The concept is nice, but I've seen too many places like this turn into uppity high-brow exclusive resorts with far too many rules. Then on the other hand, if there's no rules it could become the epitome of mayhem. Mountainrider, find me 5 acres for less than $10k an acre and I promise to not let the subdivision developers have any of it! How long do you figure we have to ride in your beautiful mountains before it's overrun by development and minivans? 5 years? Less? It's sad. Greedy people suck. |

I'd give it 5 years before the urban sprawl hits that far north. The sprawl has allready made it about 30 miles to the south on 515. That area would be older and very wealthy retired people who want to live close to Atl but not commute. Commuters tend to stay 1 hour drive from work location. Atlanta urban sprawl is the worst in the nation. I think the numbers show Atl takes up 900 square miles of land. |

You will be lucky to find anything for 10,000 an acre. A 2 acre lot next to my house is 250,000. The retired people have sent the price of land up here so high that the local people cannot afford it anymore. |

"Why not just ride the bike to the location.." Not all journeys are adventures for some people. The only reason I ride in North Georgia is to rail the twisties. I used to live in Atlanta, so a 40 minute ride up GA 400 was no big deal, but now I live in the flatlands and I'm hundreds of miles away. If I load the bike in my truck, I can bring ALL the tools I may need, ALL the clothes and jackets I want, and all the parts I can carry. This also means I can wear regular shoes and clothes when when I go out at night (Dahlonega has some great night spots). It also means I can buy anything I want because I can take it with me when I leave. I also don't have to worry about getting home hundreds of miles away if I damage the bike. It was bad enough when I had to ride 50 miles back home to Atlanta once with no clutch lever, no shift lever, no left side turn signals, and no tailights... in the dark, after I lowsided in some oil. No way I'd want to do hundreds of miles all the way back to Columbus, Georgia like that. And lastly, almost all the mileage for me to get to there from here involves some of the most crowed and dangerous highways I've ever experienced; straight throught the heart of Atlanta. Droning for miles on my bike up a dangerous and boring highway holds absolutely no magic for me, what-so-ever. I don't mind doing 500 mile days, but the journey has got to be worth the effort too, and not just the destination. |
