Well id like to take a second to say howdie wasup or hi whichever you prefer.Nice to come accros felo enthusiusts. Anyhow a few weeks ago I traded up on my blast for a 2002 X-1 at gateway to the west H-D and well i personally think they screwed me aith a 10,000$ price(though i had over 4k in trade in) Im still enjoying it.It has never been titled and only had 50 miles on it.(now go get your cleanex cause its kinda hard to tell this one.) Not but 36 hours later, after about 100 miles and just insured im riding home at about 10 or so pm.Im riding down kinad a suburbanesque main road and all of a sudden someone runs a stopsign and about side swiped me.To avoid collision i swerved to the right. Then i hit a curb at about 30 to 40 mph.I woke up i dunno how late and was covered in my own blood, face ripped to shreads from a concrete kiss that lets my jawbone slightly exposed(damn hald helmets). It only required 10 stitches though and im pretty much healed with pink where the abrasions occured.oh yeah got outa the hospital at 4am and no breaks but been outa work for almost 2 weeks. Anyhow here is the sad part.My friends tell me that im lucky whit the amount of damage to my bike cause its still handles no missalinment or anything like that. But yet i cried for my downed buell..oh yes i wheeped. The damage the bike endured where a few scrapes and dents on the exhaust header from the engine, broken mirror cracked plastic pannels or fenders, the rear brake was snapped half way off now i need to pigion toe it to use it, and most detremental an the front right portion of the shock has a dent and a crack where the rubberstopper goes which is leaking oil onto my front brake. now if i might inquire where might i find the piece or an entire front suspention(whick i dont really need just the right hand sidell due)? And does anyone else have a horror story like this??also should i tell the insurance company & make my insurance skyrocket or just fix it myself??I'll post picks of the fork piece im talking about in the near future.. |

Check out ebay for old Buell parts. I put mine back together with similar damages for $650 thanks to ebay. Use as much billet as you can, from my experience, it always survives the crash. Look around for paint shops that aren't too busy. Mine cost $750 and is awesome by my estimation. Gets lots of comments... Good luck! |

That is a real sad story. If you can afford it: Fix it yourself and make it better and more beautiful than new. (Thank you Sflabuell.) Typing within 48 hours after a serious accident: You are a lucky man. Heal well ! Hans |

man, if you got 4K for a tradein Blast, you most definately did not get screwed -- glad you survived your get off -- parts are plentiful (hint, search around a bit beofre buying -- you'll save a buncha dough -- many parts on eBay wind up selling for more then new . . . .. ) |

I'm glad you are mostly ok too! Be sure to find a good full face helmet while you are collecting parts. I don't know about you, but my face is at least as important as the rest of my head! |

glad you're OK brother -- well, OK-ish ;-} if ya get a great tradein deal (like the buyback you mentioned), ya just gotta know that the dealer is making that money up from someplace ... like you, they work for profit from the looks of the pics, I'd guess that fork leg could use replacing (lloks like the seal popped out, which leads me to believe it's at least a little bent) the pipes can be lived with, from a performance standpoint, but I undertand your desire to wipe out the signs of your get off (I've done the same) . . . like I said, judicious and careful shopping will let you source affordable parts -- just don't get caught up in a bidding war on eBay, man! take good care! |

Damn Vik. That sucks. I'm with Bomber; that fork leg doesn't look good. I'd suggest disassembly and checking/measuring for straightness before you decide to leave it like that. Damn half helmets - I agree ... glad you're ok otherwise. Henrik |

Down here we say "Hey y'all!" (haha), Nice to meet you too. Glad you're still with us! No witnesses to the accident? You just lay there until you came to? Nobody stopped to help you? Wow... And congrats on your new X1... |

"They say" bad things come in 3's, that's you and your bike skinned up, I'd keep an eye on the car! Here are 3 sayings that pop to mind: "Crashin' sucks." "Two kinds of bike riders: those that have crashed, those that are gonna.'" At least you got that part out of the way! "Bike riders are tired of dying to protect Americans' right to drive like assholes." At least you didn't make the ultimate sacrifice. I'm assuming the cage driver didn't stop. That sucks. When I was younger and crashed hard, I'd get tattoos to cover up the road rash. Don't need 'em on the face tho, facial scars are sexy as is. Good luck on the recovery. |

here's a link to an exhaust header on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-BUELL-X1-LIGHTING-EXHAUST-HEADER_W0QQcmdZVie wItemQQcategoryZ35573QQitemZ4636383522QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I didn't find any tuber forks when I did a search, only XB forks. Good luck with your rebuild, and I hope the face heals, at least your smiling in the pic! |
