My Cyclone is missing/popping thru the exhaust under hard acceleration. It starts, idles and runs perfect until I whack it open in the lower gears. Seems worse the hotter it gets. I have replaced the coil, plug wires and spark plugs and removed the tank and float bowl to check for sediment. I have owned the bike 6 years and it has 30,000 on it and has run perfect until now. It has a Yost power tube in the carb, Borla C/F slip-on and Screamin' Eagle air cleaner. It does not miss when I roll it on in 4th or 5th gear. Cam position sensor? VOES? Ignition module? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

have you ever replaced the intake manufold seals? they're rubber-like material, and over time deteriorate --

to test for an intake leak, spray some WD40 over the seals while the warmed up motor is idling -- if the WD40 temporarily seals the intake leak (idle speed changes), you found the problem

ez fix

Did you check the timing? After 30k miles, even if that is not the problem, it's worth checking.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check for intake leaks and check the timing. The thing that gets me is how good it starts, idles and runs until I open it up in the lower gears, it lifts the front wheel in 1st gear until it starts popping LOUDLY thru the exhaust. When the bike is warm, just tap the starter button and it starts instantly. Roll-ons in 5th gear are no problem.

Check the battery.

No intake leaks, timing is ok, new battery. Can the cam position sensor break down under heat/load but work ok under normal conditions?
