went to jennings this past weekend and discovered the hard way that my bellypan isnt tucked up enough. scraped it twice without much incident...but the third time, it scraped all the way back to a bracket/bolt that i had fabbed up for the bike which bounced me when it made contact. i ran off into the grass between turn 8 and 9 at jennings (but kept it on 2 wheels while doing some off-roading). pulled the bellypan off and ran the rest of weekend without it. for those of you who are running the buell bellypan (not full bodywork): do you have pics of your setup? measurements? use existing mounting points? different mounting points? suggestions? thanks! How are you mounting the belly pan? and what exhaust are you running? Make sure that the belly pan is tucked right up against the underside of the exhaust to maximise the clearance available and if necessary fabricate some new brackets. Some belly pan contact is pretty normal in racing though. We didn't use the Buell belly pan but made one from a Suzuki TL1000 item. This was more narrow than the Buell one and seemed to ground less, although patching it became a regular occurrence. Even though ground clearance was huge it is amazing just what kind of lean angles you get on the track.  | ||

cool pic! for now, coolice is going to fab up a setup for me that seems to work for one of the faster expert buell racers and i'm going to try it next weekend. new brackets and some rubber bushings to minimize the vibrations. we'll see how it goes!! thanks! D | ||

I'll leave the pit bike at home. It's less to pack anyway. I got the bike out on the track for the first time for three sessions at Autobahn today before it started raining. This bike is going to take a while to get used to. Hopefully in a good sort of way. I liked the bike but I was embarassing myself in the brake zones. Engine braking on this thing was slowing me way down, way early. Suspension still needs some work. The belly pan seemed to hold up fine but I wasn't getting into it yet. Should be interesting! who is charging for the pit bikes? ccs, or the track? and how much? I need one on race weekends, or I'm stuck in the pits. My Rascal isn't any good on anything but smooth pavement. dirt, and gravel kill the batteries in short order. | ||

The Track. $15 per event or $50 for the season. Seems there was a few accidents last year involving pit bikes that required transport to the Hospital. In good old American fashion, they punish everyone rather than the group that screwed up. As far as your rascal, if you are serious, and I say that because I don't know you or your condition, and it's for medical reasons? They better as hell not charge you for that. If they do, I will Boycott that Track!! | ||

I used a 80cc 4 wheeler at the track last year instead of the rascal at several events so I could get out and around during the weekend. Yes, it's medical, I can walk for very short distances with a cane. My left leg became paralyzed because of an inattentive driver a couple of years ago. I turn wrenches for my brother Michael Snell. Known around here as diablomichael. Several racers here know me. | ||
