Do any of you use i-pod's or other similar devices when riding? Do the ear pieces fit under the helmet? Thanks |

Just a thought...I bought a set of those earphones that skiers use with the 180's ear warmers. I mounted them inside the padding in my helmet and they work fine for me with my iPod. I got them at Dicks sporting goods during the winter for $1.99. (Just the headphones not the warmers)

I have a satellite radio on my XB and I use earbuds from radio shack....They are like regular earplugs, so they do double duty.. Larry |

For the record.....if you discharge an iPod from a Buell at "significant speed" on I-80 and *IF* you make a quick u-turn....guess where you think it is, crawl around the highway in the dark and find it.....it will still work. Or so I am told. . . .

Ahhh you did that. I know a guy who dropped his beeper off his belt while riding on the highway, he went back to pick it up and got hit point blank. He was down & out for a long time but lives to talk about it. Although he's full of metal. |

I use the iPOD with etymotic noise cancelling ear-buds. They work and sound great... I found them (6i model) for about $75 from some obscure computer store via Froogle. |

Seriously fcbuell is right on with this one. If you appreciate your music like I do, get the Etymotic 6i. Undoubtedly the best sound you will ever experience. When I say experience I mean it, you will hear sounds in your music that you never knew existed. They are compact, noise canceling and warranted. It may sound weird, but of all the things I have bought in my life, I seriously think these were the best investment ever! The phones that are included with the iPod are painful and they fall out. I cut mine to wire my iPod into the commo/CVC helmet system in my tank. Check out www.etymotic.com if you can afford to drop a couple bucks, trust me you will not be disappointed. You can get them at JR's www.jr.com for around $95. I am in no way affiliated with Etymotic. Oh, and iPods suck (did I say that?). |

For those that use iPods, I found a great product. A small 5 button (Play/Pause, FF, Rew, Vol Up/Down) wireless remote. I used to fumble with trying to hit the FF button through my jacket. This thing comes with a little plastic clip that can be strapped (with the included velcro strap) to the bars. I don't know how I lived without it before. A question for those that have mounted actual headphones in the helmet, how is that working? Right now, I'm using just one earbud, but it is kinda annoying. Any special tips? What type of earphones are you using? |

I mounted a pair of old sony headphones in my helmet. Tear them apart, burn a spot out of the foam with a soldering iron for the speakers, glue them in, and route a cord out and you're good to go. Definitely not as loud as headphones, but much easier to deal with since they don't move around. Sounds more like background music, loud enough to hear it, but not the best quality. It's actually pretty nice because they don't drown out all the ambient noise and I can hear what's going on around me better than when I used headphones. Oh yeah, and in no way should you do this because it could reduce the effectiveness of your helmet, but... (Message edited by midmofirebolt on April 28, 2006) |

I use the poor-mans DIY custom plugs that make use of your existing iPod buds. http://www.podfitkit.com/ I think this stuff works great and is worth the 13.49. I can't see spending big bucks on etymotics or the like to listen to music in a an environment in which I am unlikely to hear the nuance and detail of the music any ways. |

if you really want good in-ear "headphones" you owe it to yourself to listen to some Sure e3c's... though they are expensive... |

Another vote for Shure. They are amazing and you can't hear anything other than the music, so be careful. |

I use the sure e3 and am quite satisfied. They are comfortable, block most of the ambient noise, and produce good sounds. |

I use the Shure i2c series http://www.shurestore.com/iseries/index.html . I am able to hook up my radio and phone to my earphones and if I get a call I can switch over from the music and talk. I love it. For my radio I use a cheap armband radio. My best friend picked these up the other night and is very happy with them. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5335728&type=product&productCatego ryId=cat08352&id=1051826204625 |

One other thing don't get these http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7444571&type=product&productCatego ryId=cat08352&id=1124432966251 I picked those up first and anything above 35 mph they start distorting because they have a vent on the back of the earphone that allows in lots of wind. |

For those riders that use Etymotics or Shure in-ear monitors, do they block wind noise, etc. as well as ear plugs? I use Hearos -- they have NRR of 33db -- probably a lot less in the real-world, but I can ride for 4-5 hours without my ears ringing, and I feel less fatigued too. I'd love to add some tunes to my ride when I'm away from traffic, but I still want hearing protection. |

I was riding with Blublak a few weeks back and noticed he had his ipod hooked up with headphones through custom molded earplugs. I've seen these made, don't they don't cost too much, around $60. Maybe he'll read this thread and provide some info. |

CB7: Yes they do. Just make sure that you have room inside your helmet for the earplugs. Even though they are small they can be painful if the helmet does not allow for them. The other Sony's that I posted actually reduce wind noise quite a but at a minimal cost. |

Ramon, I mounted my Sirius radio to the front of my tank bag....I bought an extra power cord and cut and wired it to the same kind of plug that just plugs in to my battery tender leads...and I then put an extra antenna under the clear map pocket on my tank bag...I use the radio in my truck and on the bike....I did have to search around for a radio that had a headphone jack and volume control...not all of them have a volume control due to them playing through another source... The Sony buds are really good for the money. I have tried them. Cb7 - Yes the Sony's and the Etymotic Research both block out sound (noise cancelling). The ER's do a much better job though. (Message edited by alanshouse on April 29, 2006) |

Thanks. I'll probably pick up a set of ER 6i and report back. It would have been great to have them on my 230mi trip yesterday. Adding some tunes should be great once I get outside of traffic. |

I found this site that will make a custom mold for your headset. Not $60 like I mentioned but not a bad price either. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/earplugstore/cusfitearmol1.html |

The Etymotic ER6i's work well, I really like mine. If you have small ear canals, they may hurt a bit. Otherwise, they fit like normal ear plugs and I can finally hear my music the way I want to. |
