I want to modify the side stand on my S2T so it does not lean so far over. A long time ago, Aaron had posted some information on the subject. I looked but was unable to locate it on this site. Do any of you have experience with this or have any suggestions? Thanks, John | ||

John; it's fairly straight forward. I used a simple torch w/ MAPP gas to heat up the kickstand close to the mounting point, clamped it in a vise and "adjusted it" with a hammer. In retrospect I should have used a no-mar hammer for the "adjusting". I bent the kick stand a bit forward as seen from the side and a bit in towards the bike as seen from front or rear. I'll try to snap some pictures this weekend and post them here. I ended up bending a bit too far to the point where the swingarm may hit the stand when the suspension extends completely. I also had a bit of trouble with the spring being too long after the bending. I ended up hooking it all the way around the tab for it rather than through the hole in the tab. Hi Aaron; make sure you post some pictures and descriptions of you new bars as well. I'm still debating what to do about my 1" bars and the resulting lack of master cylinder bore sizes. Henrik | ||

should be something in the archives on this.... there is another option. Special frame plate, kind of expensive. several of us want to make this modification. I don't have a torch myself. REX | ||

Rex; you'll need a torch, a vise and a no-mar hammer (it'll still mar the powder coat, but that's a different story  ) Vise soft jaws (copper or some such) is a good idea as well. You can pick up a complete torch kit at Home D for around $20. Henrik | ||

Here is a pic of my kickstand after Aaron modified it for me. I believe he basically does just what Henrik says, heats it up and just bends it.  The mod is great! The lock still works, locking the stand in place, plus with the bend, it doesn't roll forward at all. | ||

I've go pics somewhere, may take a day to find them. I need to do Carl's S2, mine's done. If you have a oxy/acetlyne, put piviot end in vice, heat and bend to suit with your hand. No need to beat with a hammer. Also, the Rustolium Machine Gray rattle can is a perfect match for the stock gray side stand paint. | ||

Here are finally the pictures:       As you can hopefully see from the pictures, I used the "square" top of the kickstand as a guide for the bends, and in relation to that bent the kickstand in towards the bike as well as forward - towards the front of the bike. The stand now is less leaned over when on the stand and the kickstand tucks in nicely when up. However, I think I bent the kickstand a tad too far forward. If you look at the side picture with the kickstand up, there is the chance (or would the be risk ...) that the kickstand could touch down in a tight left-hander when fully loaded and suspension compressed. I may have another go to try to correct that. Of course, I then run the risk of the swingarm hitting the stand when the suspension extends.
