Wow - that's some serious lean angle! As I'm sure you know, be careful of out-riding the hardware - traction suffers greatly when the rear wheel is levered off the ground when grinding hard parts Henrik |

Use some body english (hang off the bike a bit), it looks like you have pushed the tires to the very edge of the contact patch. At least at Jennings if you low side, you end up in sand. |

Diablo - CCS Midwest Amateur - will be running Thunderbike, LW Supersport, LW Superbike. maybe GTL and LW GP too. Alan - yes, i really like the shoei line. have had the black RF-1000 in the pic since 2004, and also got a X-eleven bostrom replica last year. everyone else - thanks, i am having a lot of fun with the new bike and yes i KNOW about my body position issue. the pic is really evidence that i ground down my shifter (some folks didnt think i couldve gotten into the shifter - frankly, even for me, its hard to imagine it that far over when looking at the bike - but the ground off rubber and metal dont lie ). it wasnt fun when i actually did grind into it, it was actually a mini-highside that i saved - the bike does NOT like having hard contact while leaned over that much. i stood it up, ran wide, but kept it up and on the track. what i've done to correct the excessive lean (there isnt any more lean angle available!) a couple things - i got some suspension settings dialed in as a baseline for me to test from. i've also got a "test and tune racer practice" day next friday at blackhawk farms. so i can test the bike at its new settings, and i can spend a day concentrating on body position improvement. i've already missed the pre-entry date for those races, so i can decide after practice friday whether i am going to race next weekend. if i decide not to, i may still do practice saturday morning - and then go back to helping the other folks at the track. there's another trackday on may 24 at autobahn that i will be going to where i will have the opportunity to work on body position. then.....june CCS races are a definite yes! thanks all, D |

The pix look way Cool there BG: But if you heel that Bolt over any farther you will be grinding the edge of the rims you had to be pushing the tires hard, How is the motor holding up any issues with heat or lean mixture? |

Oldog - they "were" brand new tires. Pirelli Diablo Corsas - WOW, i was impressed with those tires. it was hot, the track is smooth (as far as few bumps and cracks) and grabs (porous? abrasive?, something!) like crazy. now, they're all shredded with little blobs of rubber.... motor ran great. got the power commander removed - reset TPS and AFV. great power band. no hiccups. *I* was clearly the limiting factor on the bike. OK. First, without knowing the track you're on and the turns, much of what I'll say will have to be generalizations. In pictures 1 and 3 you look extremely comfortable. In the first picture you're either exiting the track or waving to the photographer. In either case, you're relaxed. You've already touched on most of the key points in photo 2: Suspension, body postion, practice. My next thought is comfort. Looking at the picture, I'm guessing you're in a tight, slow speed corner. You look a little tense to me and it looks like you need to relax. Again, without actually being on the track with you, some of this is speculation. If it is a corner like I described, I would advise that you set up for it well in advance. Get into position before you actually initiate the corner. If it's challenging to get ready, like in the case of tight corners strung together, I find it's often helpfull to plan the corners in advance. Find several people who are comfortable with the track and have them each show you what they feel are the best ways through. There's a chance each will be a little different. Give each method a chance and go with what feels the best for you. Keep posting updates and posting pics. Please write up your first race report, too. Few things will ever compare with your first race and once the green flag flies, so many things change. Thanks for listening and remember, there are few absolutels and there are many other people with a lot more experinece than me. Just have your BS detector ready and keep at it! Vik |

this is the track where the pics are from http://www.jenningsgp.com/thetrack.htm check out the track videos http://www.jenningsgp.com/video.htm especially the one called "Melk-Man putting in a fast lap" - its totally what the track feels like. pic 2 is somewhere around second 38 in this video pic 1 - i am waving at the photog (guy was really slow in front of me, and i decided just to wait) pic 2 - its either turn 8 or 10, right in the super technical part of the track. its a 2 mile, 14 turn track - but the back half is really 1 mile with like 10-12 turns pic 3 - dont remember where thats at. good advice though - thank you. trying to learn how to hang off the bike at jennings was really hard because of how close together the turns are in the back half of the track - you're literally tossing from side to the other side over and over back there. i'm planning on getting some time in at blackhawk farms and autobahn this month. here's links to those tracks http://blackhawkfarms.com//bhf/images/BHFTrackmap8ts.gif http://www.autobahncountryclub.net/track.html (south track) thanks! some advice that's worked for me -- move your upper body out to where your noggin is even with the end of the inside bar -- gets the weight inside without necessarily getting your butt off the seat (which, if you grew up watching Mike the Bike and Bugsy Mann, seems like a very unnatural act ;-} note to self -- don't race this rider for pink slips |

hey honu - the duc is "too nice" and less replacement friendly, so just the XB9R. plus the plan for the XB9R is dedicated track/racebike, so i dont ever have to think about wadding up something i also depend on for transportation or that i owe money on. (not that i WANT to do that, but removing other consequences will allow me to focus on the track and getting better rather than limiting myself with the "what if's" on the dedicated bike) bomber - thanks - good advice, and i'm trying that idea too, in addition to weighting the inside peg and just barely rising off the seat. i didnt grow up watching mike the bike and bugsy man? for me, getting off the bike requires me to turn off the survival mechanism that screams its a BAD idea to put myself underneath a 400 lb bike, leaned over, at speed, in a turn, with asphalt whizzing next to my head.... but its necessary for me to become a better rider, so i'm focused on it now. whats a pink slip? Hey BGirl. From what I have learned. I hang off a little to much. But the instructors always said you will be able to touch your knee down when you are going fast enough. Then it should be a suprise when you do touch a knee down. I scared myself the first time I touched my knee. After that I found out it easy really smooth so I just got comfortable doing it. I was also taught when you hang off the bike you are helping the bike turn and you have extra lean angle left if there is a problem mid corner. Here is a pic of me leaning in a slow left hander at Putnam Park. I set myself up by laying my outside arm on the tank/airbox cover. Have you read the book Total Control? That is a great book. Then do some track days with Sport bike track time. They helped me out a great deal.
