My 97 S1 just starting pouring fuel out of the carb. It Runs ok, but as soon as you shut it down it rains gas out of it. Any ideas? A few times I had a problem with it after riding for a bit, then shutting it down for a while getting back on and it stalling and backfiring when I let the clutch out. HEEEEEEEELP!!!! The Carb and intake are stock. |

It could either be float level slightly too high, dirt/contamination lodged in the float inlet valve, a damaged float needle/seat or a defective petcock. You are turning off the petcock every time you shut off the engine, aren't you? If not, you're risking major engine damage when the carb overflows. How old is the gas? It could be contaminated gas too. |

You can't solve the problem until you know what the problem is, so you've got to find out where the gas is leaking from: overflow out of the float bowl (bad float, bad float valve/needle, or a piece of grit in the valve), or a damaged fuel line or connector, or something else. My S1 had a bad float bowl gasket that would only leak when I set the bike on the side stand and left the gas on (I've got a Mikuni carb, but a gasket's a gasket...). My advice is to pull the air cleaner and try to pinpoint the leak. rt |
