Anyone powdercoated their amber XB wheels? Is it necessary to strip them first? Do powdercoaters normally have the ability to strip them? I've got a red 12R and want to powdercoat the wheels to match the red plastic. I'm also thinking of painting the inside spoke area of the idler pulley, but I think I'll end up having to do that with a rattle can. I'm not sure if the idler pulley bearings are available by themselves. If not, then powdercoating the the idler is out (can't bake the bearings). Any pearls of wisdom? | ||

To get the best adhesion, you will have to strip the wheels. As far as the idler get a machine shop to press the bearings out and back in. Hope this helps | ||

Tork....I rattle canned my idler pulley. High Temp header paint. Turned out great.  | ||

That looks good, Black_Sunshine. I was going to do the same, but in red for an overall look like this- (Notice red pulley) After seeing your pic, I think I'll blacken my pulley bracket, too.  | ||

I have had 4 wheels powder coated for my other bikes. You have to remove all brgs, and anything else, valve, wheel weights etc. Make sure they know what to mask off..where brgs fit, bolt holes etc. and machined faces. They have color swatches (like for paint), so you need to have a sample of the color you want, and make the best choice. The yellow I had my wheels done didn't quite match the rest of the bike, but it was close enough..you can't tell unless you look realy close. They do all the stripping and preparation. Also have them clear coat after the initial color coating...this will help preserve the color. Cost was approx. $250 for 2 wheels. I drove 100 miles to get mine done, which took a week. I would highly advise taking them to the shop and discussing what you want with them. Mike | ||

thats from buell.com. I have it up as my wallpaper, I never noticed there was no kickstand. | ||

Exitlandrew pegged it. Stolen from Buell's website and photoshop'd for wheel and pulley color, but the kickstand was already absent in the original. | ||

That looks Sweet Tork.  This summer I plan to buy a XB12R and black it out......rims, windscreen, heel protectors, header......you get the picture. |
