Dammit!!, dammit!! I am pissed!! I pull the buell out of the garage and started her up. Idel a little low side, about 900rpms. Shaking, but no different then other days. As I let it warm up, I turn around to put on my gear. 10 seconds later the bike tips over. The left peg brakes in two pieces and the end of my clutch brakes off also. $hit!! What gives, ok bike falls I am ok with it, but what really bothers me is that the peg snapps. What if I was at the mall and wind knocks the bike over, peg busts. Ok no bike!! This is really really weak of BUELL putting on POS parts. Now probably my weekend is ruined b/c Harley Davidson (i bet) does not even have these 2 parts I need, will have to order them I am sure. lol Well if I have to buy these parts. lets talk aftermarket. What do you guys recommend for new set of pegs and clutch? Thanks, |

Hey guys I was thinking. I have rear passagner pegs on the bike and if I remember correct the pegs are identical to the driver ones. Since no-one rides w/ me, can I take the passagner pegs off and use them to replace the broken one? Would it work? I mean for temporary reasons (So i can ride for the weekend ). Thanks again!! |

I like the LSL pegs....Haven't crash tested them, but they seem to be better quality and look better as well IMHO...available at www.americansportbike.com larry |

that sucks they broke like that. damned kickstand sucks on these bikes. did the kickstand break? if so.. is there a fix for this? i'd be PISSED if my bike just "fell over" while idling. at least they are cheap enough to buy. if you lowsided the bike you would probably be glad they broke so easily. as for the clutch/brake levers i would go w/ crg. they look great and are adjustable. as for the rear sets..i have rizoma's on mine and they work very well. i had to modify them to be perfect though. they would hit in a couple spots when a load was put on the suspension. they have "new improved rear sets" but i don't know how the fit is on them. there are many other brands out there that work very well also. i guess it depends on your taste. i have a set of some aggressive looking pegs i got before my rearsets i got off ebay. they were like 50.00 or so. i had them powder coated black. then changed them w/ the rizoma's. if interested email me and i'll send a picture of them for you. could be a cheap way out for you. |

Yes you can use the rear pegs on the front. the spring that keeps the front pegs down will not fit, but it will still work. I rode mine like that for a bit at the end of the season last year. |

Well I called HD local shop and they seem to have both parts in stock and was amazed how cheap both items cost. I plan to get those OEM parts for now, but maybe now I'll add another peg to put in my pocket for those rainy nights when my kick stand feels like its going lazy ... and who is DaveS? Thanks all,. |

Consider yourself lucky that they snapped off. If they hadn't snapped off, they would still likely be damaged internally, just waiting to snap off the next time you stood up on your pegs while moving. The Buell stock pegs are a death waiting to happen. LSL pegs: http://www.americansportbike.com/shop/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?usr=51F5895557&rnd=9467 304&rrc=N&affl=&cip=69.160.135.44&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=9111&cat=&catstr= http://www.americansportbike.com/shop/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?usr=51F5895557&rnd=2329 429&rrc=N&affl=&cip=69.160.135.44&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=9112&cat=&catstr=HOME http://www.americansportbike.com/shop/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?usr=51F5895557&rnd=8048 716&rrc=N&affl=&cip=69.160.135.44&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=16066&cat=&catstr=HOME ALL of the aftermarket pegs are straight and don't have the 1" drop that your stock lightning pegs have. I recently (as in yesterdays lowside)crash tested my Oberon pegs. Still in one piece n left a hole the size of a quarter in my calf. Can't even imagine what that hole would look like with the stock pegs still on. |

<minor-hijack> Al- Am I reading correctly that installation of the LSL pegs requires the separate purchase of the LSL bases? Also, do you stock the round race legal style in anodized black finish? Thanks. </minor-hijack> |

I never fully understand these postings [with regard to XB's]. Mine does not shake enough at idle to make be believe that it'd ever tip over. I can imagine that it might, if the idle were set to low and it was lugging and jumping around... But I have my idle at spec and everything seems fine. Not calling anyone a liar. Just unable to relate... |

If your bike is shaking enough to worry you it should be pretty easy to modify the kickstand to make it go a little more over center. It won't take much material removal to give you peace of mind. |

I didn't see this mentioned- but do you already have the latest kickstand? There was a recall on the '03 model XBs, the earliest stands didn't kick forward far enough and the bike could fall off of the stand easily. Make sure your stand is stamped with an "R" either on the base of the stand or on the end of the post that holds the kickstand spring. |

The Buell traction footpegs are great...I broke off enough stock pegs to realize that they do what they do, but I don't have to live with it... Get some new pegs...whatever you end up buying! You don't want to stand up on the pegs one day and have them snap..and it CAN happen! |

Has anyone had a stock peg (not powder coated, not dropped, not chromed, not whacked with a hammer, not hit by a meteorite, etc) break while riding? I weigh... well... a lot, and I stand on my pegs all the time over bumps, and have not had a problem. |

It's been observed & speculated that they are strongest in supporting a downward load (i.e. sufficient for rider). The U shape of the casting being [more] susceptable to breakage with a load or shock from front/back/bottom... Whether that is intentional, who knows. |

Mine fell over in the driveway also. It was not to due the the kickstand persea, but due to the fact that I have a gravel driveway, and when I rolled it out it must have been sitting up on a rock, so that once it started to idle it kinda vbrated forward and then dropped off the rock, and then boom. Broken clutch lever. Frame pucks and rear axle sliders did their job though. |

I have dropped my XB three times. Twice was due to my own stupidity...front disk lock and forgot to lower kickstand when taking the bike off of the rear Pit Bull. However, this bike was made to drop! Besides a broken clutch lever and a nicely curled brake lever that now fits my fingers (I just tell my friends it is a custom bend, ha ha!), I cannot find a scratch on the bike. I am happy to know about the weakness in the pegs though...one reason I like this board. Thanks guys for the info...Cyko Bob |

Ditto. I don't usually stand all the way up on my pegs, but I'm constantly using the pegs to lift my weight off the seat for various reasons, haven't broken a peg yet. My right side peg even survived a lowside ~6k miles ago. I've read a few horror stories of stock pegs breaking while riding, but I've yet to see it happen. It just doesn't seem to be common enough to declare the stockers to be dangerous. |

There just happens to be a set of installed but not used Traction pegs in the classifieds right now. $40, pretty good deal. Solid billet, not cast, much more durable. |

Michael, Yes, separate bases and pegs. There are only three bases for XBs: Rider straight (9111), Rider dropped 1" (9184), and Passenger straight (9112). There are two different style of pegs, race round (16065) and scalloped (16066). The 16065 race round are a little shorter and only available in silver. The scalloped are a little longer, and are available in Black, Gold, Silver, Gun Metal/TI and Blue. There may be other colors, I only stock those. Al |

I had my peg (RH NEW) snap while standing on up on them to stretch while riding. I had just converted to the lightning style on firebolt (LOWER) to try and squeeze some comfort out of them... Almost lost it, corrected.. my buddy was behind me and said that was some crazy shit the peg hit his bike... I also had a firebolt peg snap, the bike was parked and just tipped over unprovoked. Used one of the rears backwards for a front peg... Buell Pegs suck, they are Pieces of #$^%#%, and that bieng nice Jason |

Thanks for the info Jason, was the peg that snapped on the firebolt new or used? Was it powdercoated or anything? Any drops on it? I like the idea of a peg that will easily explode into bits on a low side (as pegs are cheaper then legs). And don't mind (given the price) mandatory "replace peg on side you dropped it on every time you drop it". But I would not want to blow out a peg standing on it over a big bump. |

Had a peg break while in a corner. But I had laid it down about 10 months before. It was the high side peg in the corner so it really didn't effect the bike as much as it did the driver. Just flopped the rear to the front and found that I like the riding position better. I have also heard of someone who stood up to go over railroad tracks and had her(?) peg break. Gotta go look into those traction pegs in the classified! |
