I dropped my bike off to get tires and brakes put on and had them do 1 Dyno run while they were at it. It's a '05 XB12R with 3k miles and a race ECM, K&N filter and Drummer original exhaust. Bike feels great to me (only had it for 3 months and it's my first Buell) but I was disappointed with the Dyno results. They just did a HP run and came up with 85hp at the wheel. That seems low to me especially with the add-ons. Any suggestions or ideas or comments? |

Wow...thats really low...it seems, I thought they came (posted) 103 hp stock??? |

103 is at the crank not at the wheel. |

I was under the impression that with those mods, you would be at about 90hp, but I think it depends on the dyno you are running on too. It may be a couple off from another dyno. One question to ask yourself though...does it feel like enough for you? If so, it's just a number. I don't care what my hp rating is, as long as it hauls ass when I twist the throttle. |

It feels fine to me but I thought XB9's were doing those numbers with the same mods I have. Around 95 hp was where I thought it should be. It was a Dyno Jet machine and 75 degrees and low humidity. |

These bikes aren't about numbers. If you measure bikes by numbers (hp, 1/4mile, top speed) you'll be disappointed with Buell. |

Actually, to me, I feel it is right there. I got the same results on my 12 with D&D, race ECM, and air filter. I did, however, gain almost 10 h.p. by bolting on a Micron Full Exhaust. |

I was always under the impression the 9s were getting mid 70's at the rear wheel and the 12s were getting between mid 80's and 90. Hmmm. |

I guess I need a Drummer SS or a Micron! My bike actually feels just fine to me and has more power than I can use and sounds great. It's just fun to tweak it and give it a little extra and make it your own. Maybe I didn't read the other posts well, but it seemed people were getting more with about the same mods. I don't think an open airbox is going to put me at 100hp from 85 and I didn't think a Drummer SS or Micron would be that much better than my Drummer original. We'll see how she does this Monday at Summit Point. |

85-90 hp is about right for a 12 at the rear wheel. Remember the race ECM will work with the drummer, but isn't actually optimized for it. You could probably get another 5-10 hp with direct link tuning to dial in your fuel curves. |

This Dyno from the boys at KDFAB puts mine to shame then. Econo Drummer, stock ECM, stock filter. image

Wait for the muffler shootout. With all mufflers being tested on the same dyno and bike you wont get a more accurate back to back comparison of whats hot and whats not. No more muffler company friendly dyno's to make the figures more impressive. |

According to the curves, that looks much better than stock. It is not about "peak numbers" to me. Looks like the perfect street curve to me. |

when is that shootout happening? last i heard it was going to be at the begining of may. am i correct in saying this? i am in the market to get either the micron or the new drummer w/ direct link but am waiting to see how it unfolds. will go w/ the one w/ the most "midrange torque" as that is where i ride most of the time. i currently have a jardine w/ fast kit but i want to be near the 100hp. mark. anyone know how many exhausts are going to be tested in this shootout? this shootout is going to be awsome i'm sure. this site is awsome. where else can you get this kind of information and dedication from sponsors. good luck to all that are in the shootout! "They just did a HP run and came up with 85hp at the wheel. That seems low to me especially with the add-ons. Any suggestions or ideas or comments?" just go from dyno to dyno until you see the numbers you'd like. it'll at least make you feel better.

"Wait for the muffler shootout. With all mufflers being tested on the same dyno and bike you wont get a more accurate back to back comparison of whats hot and whats not." That might be true in theory and If Buells were water cooled with very little variance in engine temperature. But, with an air cooled engine doing several Dyno runs in succession, the numbers will not be all that accurate. Better than nothing though. |

Don't worry about the numbers. If the power delivery is seamless, go ride. These things don't make big numbers, hell my GSXR 600 track bike makes 95 hp to the rear wheel. Just my .02. John |

It's pointless to compare numbers from different dynos. "just go from dyno to dyno until you see the numbers you'd like." The best bang for your buck! |

1stbuell, If you have a fuel system that has an adaptive nature you need to have the operator run it on the dyno till it learns the conditions in the room, not from riding it on the road....anybody that operates a dyno and halfway knows what they are doing will know these things....it doesn't matter what mods you have on your bike, if you only get one pull on the dyno or 6 it's not a correct reading to use for anything....have them charge you for an hour labor and actually heat soak the engine and get about 20 good pulls and if it doesn't keep making the same lines or at least a hp or 2 off on the same path, you're not even close to a good readout....save your money and wait till your buddies outrun you before getting on the almighty quest for a number train, it's designed to drain your wallet and it will, and your bike still might not run as good as the dyno says, I've seen it happen time and time again.... My bike has never been tuned and it works fine for me, just ask the boys on gixxers up in the mountains, they will tell you Buells arent slow, now if your racing on the freeway......forget it. |

The muffler comparison testing is occurring the first weekend in May. Terry will be operating the dyno, he knows what he is doing and the results will be meaningful. Directlink will be hooked up to the bike while it is operating, with real time engine temperature monitored. Proper heat soak will occur, temperatures will be as consistent as they can be. We can't control mother natures temperature variation from morning until afternoon, or the humidity change that occurs as a result. |

Ernie got 95HP out of a 12R(my old demo) with a Buell race kit and DL mapping yesterday. It is a customers bike now but he let me take it for a ride. NICE! |

Mio... You've ridden with me.. I know I'm not that fast on the street, but currently my XB9 puts 77hp at the rear wheel. Did you feel I was holding up you three 12s? Now for my bike, I think the numbers are good and the OVERALL performance is about to improve.. I just got my brand new Drummer SS and will let you know what I think after I have a chance to get it mounted and put a couple of miles on it so the new can and bike can become .. buddies. (Thanks again Kevin and of course Robin for buying it for me) |

Hey Blu, No you certainly weren't holding us up. You could probably outrun me on a Honda Cub! However, I am not looking really for numbers but I am one of those people that like to have things work at their best. I just want the bike to be tuned and working as best it can. I don't particularly care if it's 85hp or 105hp. If I get it tuned as best it can and it still reads 85hp, I will be just as happy. |

without an air:fuel plot you won't know if your bike is tuned as well as it can be. |

What no one has mentioned really, or maybe I missed it, you didn't have a baseline run done without those mods on that particular dyno. Each dyno will read differently. Some read High or "happy" and some read low "unhappy". When you have no idea what the dyno reads like, all you can really do with that report is either accept it as a baseline for that dyno for future mods, OR just look at the curve. The fact the operator only ran a HP run ment he didn't want to take the 5 seconds to hook up the torque lead to the dyno loop. So honestly, I wouldn't put ANY stock or accept that as a true dyno run. If he shortcut that part, what else did he shortcut. |

Will the Terminal Velocity unit work on the Buells? I have heard some things about them, but haven't as of yet seen them. They are supposed to be able to tune on the fly. Sounds good in theory. Stretch |
