I'd like to start by saying. I had met Leon at JGP for the New Years Eve track weekend bash this past new year.We both had some bike problems that weekend but still had a blast. It was nice not being the only Buell on the track for once. Here is the first set of pics' I'll post more later. Thanks again Leon and PTT staff for throwing such a great track day experience. PTT broke the record for the amount of ride sessions. I was slap dead tired when the day was over. PTT is first class in every way. Thanks again Leon and PTT staff. Buellgirlie's bike

here's my little trackday report! spent last weekend at Jennings, and got back yesterday morning. had a GREAT time - thanks to Leon and PTT! the racebike did great and ran well, I learned a ton and improved a lot, and it was a great weekend. I ran 8 sessions of 15 min the first day and 5 sessions of 20 min the second day – so I got a LOT of track time – well over 200 miles! It’s a really technical track, especially the back half where ALL you do is throw the bike from side to side (its 14 turns in 2 miles, but really its 10-12 turns in the 2nd mile!) – and the weather was superb (though hot). No crashes. 1 run-off. Some serious parts dragging which needs to be corrected partly by new mounting for bellypan and partly by better body position Dragged both sides, more seriously on the left – but then again, Jennings is very much a left turn track. Ground into the bellypan 3 times on the left side in session 2 (session 1 was total sensory overload with new bike, new track, new tires, new leathers, etc.!!!), the 3rd time I ground into the bellypan I got into the bracket and bolt which bounced me while leaned over and made me runoff after turn 8 before turn 9 (see map http://www.jenningsgp.com/thetrack.htm – its right in the middle of the most technical part of track). after that session, I pulled the bellypan off. For the right side, I dragged the peg and my boot a couple (non-eventful) times. however, I continued to grind into the bracket Jason fabbed up, and eventually, got into the shifter peg(!) which bounced me again and although I didn’t run-off (again after turn 8 before turn 9), the bike tried like hell to throw me off, I ran wide, stood it up, and saved it – dawn of dvk photo, the photographer, saw and heard the whole thing and called it a definite mini-highside that I saved. After having the #($*&(*%& scared out of me by that one, I started making a serious serious serious effort to improve body position, which I made some good progress on – but have a long way to go still. I apparently really like my seat! So – we’ve got to figure out a higher, tighter way to mount that bellypan. Another large issue – I’m too damn short for the bike – my legs aren’t long enough. In street riding boots, I’m fine with my little heel. However, with my raceboots (flat, no heel), I cant touch the ground at all with both feet. I have to be one foot up on peg, the other ball of foot down. Which is FINE for riding, but it means that I cant maneuver it in the pits and I cant get it off the stand myself………so do i remove the seat completely? do i see if a cobbler can add a little heel to my raceboots? do i get a crate to stand on? luckily, for this trackday - i had some great pit crew it was 6 of us on 5 bikes, so there was always at least 1 guy who could help, and by day 2 it was 6 of us on 3 bikes so there were 3 guys to help - but its not really a great plan (though really appreciated by me!!) to hope that someone will always be around to get me on and off the bike.... Double, contradicting problem – I need more ground clearance and less seat height. Suggestions? I’d definitely recommend Jennings and PTT if you get the chance! Yeehaw! i'll be at RA this weekend to watch and learn. i dont think i can race blackhawk in may due to time constraints, it may have to wait til june because i'm watching the races this weekend, out of town next weekend for a friend's bridal shower, and the weekend after is that first blackhawk race weekend.......... D (no pics yet from me, i didnt take any - though there are some super cool ones that i waiting to get via email and also to buy from dawn - but her site's down - what's up with that??!!) |

#64 the jim's H-D buell belongs to tim hall - who's a buell racer in florida CCS. the bike behind that one (GSXR) belongs to badwebber Sting56, as does the little pit bike that Shred and "my little man" nicholas are on in the next bike. the bike that leon is riding in the pics (blue, lots of stickers, belongs to chuck from madison sport bikes) now all the bikes in the pics are accounted for! Buellgirlie it sounds like we need to talk about some chassis setup work (forks shock rideheight) to put an end to that drag problem you have. I will be at R.A. this weekend so look me up. Sounds like you had a great time at Jennings. Terry |

As a group, I would have to say it was the smoothest track day I've seen at Jennings, It makes all of the difference when everyone you ride with has a real job to get back to on monday, and not out to prove in their own mind that they will someday be adopted by the hayden's. It was a nice change after seeing 4 life flights and over a dozen ambulance runs for the CCS race two weeks prior. I would have liked more track time for myself, but Tim Hall and I got booted for breaking the Db limit too many times. I guess it's my HD influence, but I still love loud pipes. I loved seeing the v-rod on the track, crazy! The pic on the pocket bike turned out great He'll want one real soon. Nice to meet ya'll |
