Buellrcr - was that a warranty replacement? I hope not - here in Oz I have been told by my dealer that (quote) 'there is no way that Buell will cover a loom replacement - we are only authorised to repair wiring looms' (unquote). Anyway Bubbafl, I have had an (increasingly) intermittent reset of clock and trip meter on my Uly for the last couple of months and in my case it is a broken wire in the loom in the area of the flexible section around the steering head. I won't bore you with the details of the failed attempts by the dealer to repair my loom but what you can easily check with a voltmeter is the battery supply that provides power to the instrument cluster when the ignition is off. This +12v is fed to the instrument cluster on pin 2 of the connector (the red wire on the far right as you look at the plug from the front of the bike). If you are going to check this I would suggest you disconnect the battery before you unplug / plug the instrument cluster to avoid any issues with the electronics - I can email you a step by step instruction if you want. If that +12v is missing then I would suggest you talk to your dealer before attempting to repair it yourself. I was advised that if I opened the loom up myself then any future loom repairs would not be covered by warranty. The good news is that it isn't a show-stopping issue but be careful of the reserve fuel trip meter - it is also reset when the power is lost. |
