Okay, this started out as a replace the upper isolator on my 2001 x1 and has morphed. old post here I though I would need to lower the engine to get the isolator out (didn't need to) so in anticipation of the strain on wires and such I cut the zip ties and disconnected all the wiring connectors in the area near the front isolator. So I swapped the isolator, put it all back together and hit the starter, nothing, well the relay clicks, but then nothing. Ican't help but think I knocked a wire loose or something. Everything works like before. The kickstand switch and the clutch switch work. I checked the diodes and relay all looks well there. The battery is fully charged and less than 2 years old. All electrics work Am I missing something simple or is the solenoid/starter the likely candidate? Thanks Matt |

"..and hit the starter, nothing, well the relay clicks, but then nothing." If the start relay is pulling in, the wire on the right side of the starter is likely off (just pushes on IIRC) or loose. The power from the key goes to one of the relay contacts, comes out the other contact and goes direct to the starter solenoid (on the starter). Good Luck.... |

John, Sometimes my ability to grasp the obvious amazes me. Followed the wire down from the relay to solenoid and sure enough, its not connected (wire is actually out of the connector). Simple fix and I'll be back in the saddle. Can't wait its in the 70s up here tomorrow Thanks a million! |
