You know what they say, "There are those that have crashed, and those that will". I WAS in the "those that will" category until about 11:30 today. I went into a left corner too hot today, locked up the front brake, the Dunlop's stood me up and over I went, Welcome to Highside City. Slid a little, then into the guardrail. Worse part is, the guy that just bought the XB9 off of me laid his down too, trying to avoid me. DOHHHHH. Word of the day boys and girls is, GET GOOD GEAR and WEAR IT!. Between the 2 Buells we have 2 bent left forks, 2 broken left rider pegs, 2 sets of broken mirrors, bent handlebars, 1 broken set of turn signals, busted front wheel/tire (from guardrail), sliced rear tire, dented XB12 header pipe and a broken headlight housing. We both walked away with some brush burns. Very Fortunate.  I like a pullback bar, but geez....  Get Frame Pucks, they are worth every dollar.  Hmmm, doesn't look too strait anymore.  Well, one less "flavor of the day". Guess I'll be going back to Black until my other paint set gets finished in May. Anyone looking for a set to Line-X? I'll have to find the pic of the front wheel. Now for new tires...Conti Road Attac's or Pirelli's. Yes, the call has been made to our Sponsers already. Any idea where to get a replacement set of Napolean bar end mirrors. I really liked them. | ||

No, I was taking the fork apart to see if I needed just the lower or the whole fork assembly | ||

Oh, duh.... She's definitely got a little crook down there, looking at the pic. I would think you could dismount it and take it somewhere that could check for straightness, but the way it's bent, the seal surface at the bottom is likely fubar.....hence the puddle. $.02 | ||

Glad to hear you were riding smart and wearing your gear. I saw waaaay too many out today that weren't. This is a bad time to ditch the gear in the name of comfort. rusty skills combined with dirty roads equals a high number of accidents. | ||

Toona- sorry to hear about your misfortune. I always want to have my bike when we're going up the mountain out of Bellwood to Coalport where my wife is from. It's a sweet road. Odie, I'll get some close up's of the plastics on Monday. The front fender took the worst when it hit the guardrail, but it's not cracked. Minor scuffs on the flyscreen and rt side chin spoiler. A/B cover is fine, no marks. The offer still stands to stop in at the shop on your way up the mountain. I'm right on 865 @ North 5th St (left side). Thanks to ALL for your well wishes. I'm sure tomorrow I'll be a little stiffer. Just a stoved thumb, for now. | ||

Raf, the rear is still good. The front is now a wall ornament on the "Wall of Shame" The guardrail took a big chunk out of the lip. | ||

Sorry to hear that Toona. I highsided the other night. I went up, almost got thrown, but was able to clench down on the bike and get it straightened out. I still don't know how it happened. I felt my rear spinning and go out from underneath me then it grabbed and tried to buck me. I was lucky, nothing wrong, scared the crap outa me though. Glad to hear that you are okay, other than minor bruises and burns. | ||

Dan First. Glad that you and friend are okay. Trust the bikes will be be mended soon. Question on the protective gear you two were using. What type/brand (was it CE) and what did it look like afterwards. Always wondering if what I have is good enough to take a slide and not wear through. Again glad you two are ok Thanks Wayne | ||

I'm glad to hear your ok, good to see that the 15 dollar frame puck did its job to protect that 1000 dollar frame. That what doesnt kill you only make you stronger. I have been down twice in the past, and the quicker you can get back out riding the better. | ||

Slickster: My gear and condition afterwards; KBC Helmet, one of the new Airborne Series. One scratch about 3 inches long. Just deep enough to take the paint off, nothing into the "shell" Joe Rocket Meteor 5 jacket: One of the snaps for the elbow armor came undone, armor stayed in place. I resnapped the snap, all is well. Nothing torn or wore through. Highly recommended. I also have one of their mesh (Ballistic?) jackets for summer riding. Joe Rocket Nova gloves. My gloves are fine, no damage, but my hands didn't hit the ground. The other guy that went down has the same style of gloves with the carbon fiber knuckles. His carbon fiber is chewed up pretty good, but not through. He just bought them earlier in the week. He was riding with the fingerless leather gloves with open knuckles. If he would have had them on, he would be hurting in a big way. Boots: I bought a pair of Nitro riding boots this past Feb at the Cleveland IMS show. They are a mid calf height with inner/outer ankle armor and a 3" block of plastic/rubber to the outside of your little toe back to the ball of your foot. The block is held on by 2 small screws, maybe #6, the block got pulled off, but no other damage to the boot and my ankles are fine. Levi Jeans: Wore like the old "Sears Toughskins" my mom made me wear when I was a kid. Nothing torn. I have a small 1" brushburn on my hip. The search is on for a pair of JR pants that will zip to the 8" zipper on the rear/bottom of the JR coat. My worse "injury" is a brush burned forearm. My only guess how that happened was from dirt/small stones going inside the sleeve even though I had the velcro wrist tabs somewhat snug. Hope that helps. My thought towards good gear is that jackets/helmets/gloves/boots can all be thrown away if damaged. You can't do that with arms/heads/fingers/feet. I might have a total of $350-$375 total in all I had on (JR jacket came with another bike I bought, but the same sells on ebay for $100-$125), new KBC helmet - $130, JR gloves - $50, Boots - $60. No Injuries = PRICELESS Don't continue to think about getting the gear- JUST DO IT! | ||

I totally agree about wearing the gear Toona. I went down for the second time on my XB a couple of weeks ago and the gear took all of the abuse. I'm covered head to toe in leather now whenever I'm going for anything but a leisurely cruise...and even then only the leather pants are replaced with jeans. | ||

Toona Thanks for the information or how the riding gear held up. Sounds like you were using good protective gear that worked well. I will pull the velcro wrist tab a little tighter now and get a better reinforced glove. Thanks again. Slickster | ||

I ordered a set of Conti Road Attacks. From the good reviews they have gotten on here and the cool looks of the tread. Still looking for a front silver wheel and 12 header. Everything else was procured either here or on eBay. Thanks to all who helped get us back on the road in the near future. | ||
