This bike I'm interested in has FI. I know and like CV's, know nothing about FI. Need some info... Is it reliable? Looking at a Y2K S3. How is the performance compared to the CV? How is the Buell ECM upgrade? Can I upgrade/tune it myself, or do I need to take it to a dealer for a computer scan? Is software available for mac laptops? How is fuel consumption with FI? Any recalls I should know about? If I want to convert to a CV down the road, can I just swap it out, install a stand-alone ignition like the Dyna S, unplug the brain box, and move out? Or do I need a new ECM to make the rest of the electrics (lights, starter, etc.) work? Thanks Joe |

HappyJoe: the efi is not hard to live with, heres the poo from an x1 the FI system is reliable and simple a pc or palm version efi software package is available ~ $200.00 there are comm issues with the pc version inquire with the vendors about apple American Sport Bike and DaveS handle the kit the fi has needed 1. cylinder head temp sensor 2. set of plugs 3. air filter the dealer replaced the ECM under warranty @13000 mi I did a pm At the pm I did 1.inlet seals 2. standard O2 sensor I added a PC3, the bike ran well with out it and runs good with it, A race ECM is a better bet with the right muffler and filter. With the pc3 I have had 35 mpg standard about 45 mpg or so recalls are in the KV to remove the FI, you will need to change the manifold, add carb, add ignition, remove fuel pump and re plumb the tank for a petcock |

I can't complain about my X1 injecton even though it's broke right now due to a throttle shaft failure. I have 64,000 miles on mine. I generally get between 45 and 52 miles per gallon. With fuel injection, you can swap exhausts and change altitude and the computer adapts the jetting. Get the race brain and a loud pipe. It will make you happy. |

I gotta agree with Nate and Jim, the X1 FI has no inherent problems. It has excellent throttle response, runs perfect all the time, no muss no fuss and makes for loads of fun. I get 45 in town to 60 on the highway. The broken shaft has been reported in the past but I don't know the cause. It's got nothing to mess with and no reason to mess with it anyway. |

I have an '02 S3T...Injected. I have had no complaints...Starts right up, runs great. I purchased the software and am able to perform the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor, resets myself. I also have the "Race" computer and a V & H slip on, gutted air box and re-routed breather tubes...bike runs STRONG and sounds good. I get about 40 - 45 mpg. Only issues I have had is the O2 sensor, and now a small leak I am trying to track down...great bike!!!!! Comfortable and Beautiful!!!!! Good Luck. Jason |
