I don't play on many other forums, but there's one feature I like in the Corvette Forum. When you do a mouseover on a thread title, that particular post appears for about 10 seconds. I find it more useful than just having the first dozen or so words showing. Plus, I don't have to wait for an entire page to open to get the gist of it. I know. It's bells & whistles, but hey, it lends a nice polished look and feel. |

I bet we could implement that fairly easily. It will significantly increase bandwidth (page size) as all that text must be encoded into the page. Maybe implement it for search results pages only? Would that be good for you or do you not use the new messages search? |

Yep, that text is to strong on the eye and is hard to separate between headers on the search results page at a quick glance. And it sucks overall. What's wrong with the comic sans? I thought we were all pretty much in agreement on that one. Rocket |

In fact, the new text is that bad, it's like reading a text book. Weird I know, but it feels like some of the character of BadWeB has being removed. Rocket |

I hate having to agree with Rocket , but the new text is worse to read than the old one. |

Blake, i started a thread over on the Quick Board about the font stuff, sorry if that's out of place. Chalk another one up who likes the font changes. Much easier for me scan topics. More crisp overall. |

Just a change for the heck of it to see how it plays. The arial font does not show up as boldly as the comic did at the same browser text size setting, but if you set your browser's text size up a notch from where it was, it should be nice and bold. On MSIE version 6 I do a "View" then "Text Size". Not sure about other browsers. I tend to agree about the character thing and the informal look/feel of the comic font. Will probably reset it. Might do different fonts for different topics. Maybe use, arial, verdana, or tahoma in the KV. I dunno. Just goofing around. I spent a bit of time trying to reorganize the KV and the title fonts looked better to me there in arial, so being the lazy type, I switched the font for the entire board. Will take a look at how to put the arial online just for the KV. Anyone here know anything about fonts and which are better for web pages? I'm ignorant on the subject. Are "true type fonts" always the best choice? |

Blake, you should be able to bump the font size in the Discuss settings I would think. Something like 12px with 14px leading (or spacing) would probably show up better for most. sounds like people like pretty large fonts though so maybe Verdana (very wide and readable) at a larger size would work too although it sounds like you have quite a few Comic Sans fans. Regarding true type vs post script, thats usually local unless you're able to push fonts to the user like with Flash applications. they get 'embedded' in the Flash file. most web sites (or web applications like Discuss) will spec what font will be called in the users browser. then their computer loads the appropriate font on their end. they may have a true type or open type or even a post script font on their end. hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions. EDIT: here's a few mock ups with some sample type set in the various system fonts available to most. I'm not sure if PCs (i'm on a Mac) support anti-aliasing (smoothing) of fonts in a browser so i've mocked up both.. . BadWeb fonts on brown BadWeb fonts on tan BadWeb fonts on white (Message edited by typeone on April 15, 2006) |

On MSIE version 6 I do a "View" then "Text Size". Not sure about other browsers. Firefox does it the same way. Also, ctrl + and ctrl - are shortcuts for the same thing. One downside of having to adjust the font, is it doesn't carry over to new windows being opened, at least with firefox. Clicking links on badweb often results in new windows being opened. Also, my typical MO for reading badweb is to do a new posting search and then to run through the results and open a new tab for each thread that looks interesting. |

Not real pleased with the new lay out of the knowledge vault.Went to look at the nice obvious section showing all the wheel bearing numbers etc and could not find it.I liked having it RIGHT there, and am terrible at using any search engine. |

The KV is a freakin' mess. It's not resistance to change on my part, it really is a mess. |

Maybe there should be a section with solutions that nobody can post in so it would be easier to find answers. |

Will switch the font back. Not sure the following is constructive: "The KV is a freakin' mess. It's not resistance to change on my part, it really is a mess." |
