hey everyone- I getting a Buell. i have decided. but I am having trouble deciding between the firebolt and the lightning. they seem very similar and I like the upright riding position of the lightning but I want the fairing off the firebolt. I assume they both are essentially identical performance wise and the difference is riding position comfort verses wind blast comfort? anything i am missing here. oh yes looks.... i dont care about looks. anyone here put a firebolt fairing on a lightning? |

Having owned one of each, I would say if I had to do it all over again, I would go with the Firebolt with heli(sp) bars. I already did the lightning pegs and cushioned seat for the bolt. I DO think that I am riding better with the lightning long that I have, I just hate the wind beating me to death over a hunnert. Come on Firebolt Long. |

This winter I am really thinking about doing a R front end on my S- If I can find some cheap parts I think I'll do it. |

I think Cochise's Ss is a sweet ride, but I would never trade my 12R after keeping pace with a 999R this weekend. |

both sets of pegs fit both bikes..the S pegs are about an inch or so lower to the ground, via a descending vertical metal piece the peg starts from, the R pegs are straight out from the mounting holes. Taller people might like the S pegs better for more leg stretch. |

You can get pegs and stuff at American Sportbike. There are all kinds of pegs available. I wouldn't wish too hard for any stock pegs. I just ordered some stuff from AL and am waiting. Included in the bundle are the inch lower brackets and some new riding pegs. Didn't get the passenger pegs, but got some axle sliders for front and rear, and some new fatter grips. All that's left after that is removal of the passenger pegs, select seat, and maybe a tail chop. I am also getting new rubber. Going with the Pirellis like off the CityX, and have an appt for next Wed, the same day that I expect the UPS truck to arrive. I am thinking about the race kit. Pondering it. Hmmmm. Sounds good. Uhhh, maybe. Hmmm. Stretch |

If you like the fairing off the R. I would get that one and just change the bars and pegs. Cheapest way to go. |

Bars and pegs are easy changes too, switching out farings creates a host of more doeable but complicated issues... |

buellblastrider- I have an R and switched to the S pegs. You can have my R pegs if you want. I switched from the S to an R. I am 6' and 210 lbs. For some reason, I feel more comfortable on the R. I seem to be more in the bike than a feeling of on top of it. (if that makes any sense). I never liked the feeling on the S as far as ,all I saw in front of me was the pavement, meaning there is not much in front of you as far as a tank and fairing goes. For a sportbike, the riding position on the R is pretty comfy. |

I started with the R, swapped out a S tail with the low seat. A little more relaxed riding position, easier on the wrists. Still get protection from the wind with a ZG +3 windshield. Best of both worlds. Looks kool too. |

Thanks for all the awesome feedback! Seems like the S and R have a bunch of stuff id like to mix and match maybe the R is the best way to start and then add pegs heli bars with a more comfy seat... of course an aftermarket pipe and ecm is mandatory! |

I'm 6'3" and have an R. I switched to the S pegs, Heli bars, comfort seat and can ride all day in relative comfort. |

I went from a 9S to a 12R. I still prefer the bada$$ looks of the lightning, but riding home from work in NEOhio at 2am, the fairing is MUCH appreciated! I also went to the lightning pegs and Helibar tree, and I added the "touring" screen (3" taller) to the fairing. A few minor changes, and I think the 'Bolt makes a great Sport/ Touring/ Commuter. Can't really go wrong with either Buell, though! |

Firebolt vs. Lightning? I see the Lightning's hand being raised when they announce the winner. |

Buy, make or get someone to fabricate you a custom fairing for the Lightning. It would take more steps to get a 'bolt where you want it then to get a lighting where you want it. |

Is it easier to put a Firebolt front-end on a Lightning.....or a Lightning rear on a Firebolt? |

Brad only took me about an hour to do the swap. it was really basic and nothing that hard to do. i don't think to put the R front end on your bike would be that hard to do either. Dora it was nice to meet you also.and get to hang out with people from bad web. take it easy over there.(thick N.Y. accent) brian (lonexb) |
