I know that Buell supposedly has some kind of new "special" fluid for the '06 trannys which enables the service intervals to be extended, but the local Harley dealer didn't have a clue about this stuff and just told me to put some regular old HD fluid in there. What's so special about the "new" fluid? And what can I use in its place that will be equivalent or better to the stuff Buell recommends. I want to do a 250 mile oil and tranny fluid change. Is it o.k. to run synthetic fluid in the tranny before the 1000 mile break-in period? Thanks and God bless. |

The new stuff is called "Formula+" Transmission & Primary Chaincase Lubricant. It replaces Sport-trans fluid, Semi-Synthetic Transmission lube, and Primary Chaincase Lube. The Harley part number is 99851-05. Formula+ was developed with a proprietary mineral basestock formula. |

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448768339&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302290355&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302290355&bmUID=1128514084057&bmLocale=en_US Print and cut out this picture and take it in to your dealership and request that they order a case of it for you. It is new, but they should have known about it by now. Educate them rather than berate them, but buy a case of it so you don't have to go back so soon. If someone asks me about something I don't know about yet, I'll at least make an effort to find out rather than send the customer on their way. |

Speaking of '06 bikes when changing the trans/primary fluid is it like the tubers where you don't use a quart (use 28 oz.) or is it okay to use the full 32 oz. Just curious Frank |

Frank, I have found on my XB's I can use the entire 32oz to reach the bottom of the spring plate. They must have redesigned someting in the cases to allow for more complete drainage of the old fluid. Tim |

I Brought my 06 to my dealer for its 1000 mile service, they put in trans-primary harley synthetic oil. I called buell and they said to run the formula+ like it said in the manual, clutch could slip. changed back to formula+ |

Ok its time for 1k service on my 06 XB12X. So I turned to the owners manual it says use "GENUINE Harley-Davidson FORMULA+ TRANSMISSION AND PRIMARY CHAINCASE LUBRICANT (Part No. 98851)" When I look up Formula+ on the HD web sites it has a part # 99851-05. Is this the same stuff or maybe a typo in my manual for the part#? 99851-05? 98851? Tanks Mark |

I'll answer my own question here. Received service manual for Ulysses today. It gives 99851-05 for Formula+ part#. Must be typo in owners Manual. |
