Got bike back from shop on Sat. Went on camping/shooting trip. Did about 200 miles with 10-15 of that on gravel roads. I LOVE TENNESSEE!! I have a handgun carry permit and had my .45 auto on my hip(just visible sticking out from under jacket) About 80 lbs of gear and a .22 mag rifle slung across my back. Got some funny looks but was passed and even followed by several cops and even with Pro-series exhaust was never stopped. Bike ran great and had great time. John | ||

LOL, those cops might not have stopped you, but they sure ran your plate and checked your driving history and permit status. They were probably keeping tabs on you too. The first cop that followed you probably reported your direction of travel and the second cop probably knew you were coming before you ever saw him. | ||

P.S. Of course you'd never see something like that out in Cali LOL!! Wanna bet! I had a buddy of mine ride through SOCAL with an AR-15 Strapped to his back. I've ridden with a shotgun (in a case) strapped to the bars of my Ironhead, and I had a buddy ride across country (including california) with a musket strapped to the front forks like while going to a American Revolution Re-Enactment.... I'm gonna get with a friend of mine who goes to both Maryville college and UT to see if he knows anyone in engineering calsses who can develop a combo dipstick/oil temp guage for us. I think I can get him to help since he just recently joined the ranks of us Blastards! Anyway,just got home from gym. Time for a shower and a Dragon run before work. John | ||

Can it read both temperature and level? It would be sweet if it had a digital temp reading in the middle, powered by a tiny watch battery, and a mechanical sweep across the top to indicate oil level. | ||

I was thinking about the dipstick this morning. It would be pretty easy to machine up a aluminum bung that a bemetal thermometer threaded into.  | ||

James, now you're talking. Anyway rode the Dragon this morning. MAN what a difference the extra power made. 3rd and 4th gear instead of 2nd and 3rd. Of course I had a little scare. Came out of left, powered down short straight, started braking for right and hit some wet leaves with back tire. Slid back tire about a foot yo foot an half, messed up my entry to right, got heart rate way up there, and I think I'm short some seat foam. But other than that no problems. I was asked as part of the group on another forum - the question - what would I like to see the factory do with the Blast - its so funny but the same bike still shines before my eyes and perhaps I'll personally have to build it if Erik never hears my prayer - I would given time and money - and time will see! Still it proves to me - I really love this single - my reply: The Perfect Blast - lol - sure - I'll tell - I've dreamed of it forever - the money is no object - Blast single - is the - Ta Da! - 650cc XBR Blast - in Black - Perfect fun - in Translucent Black and Black frame,pucs, and wheels - Pirelli tires - flush rear signals, passenger seat cover, signal/mirror combo, remove decals, using a carb and a Force design with adjustable rear and front mounts exhaust, oil cooler, XB head, piston oilers, piston, cam, 12 derived crank - would be almost 40 lbs lighter than a regular XB due to a whole bunch of missing stuff, axle drop protectors, bar end sliders, running a stack and thin air box filter, lower height perhaps using low components - the dedicated, simple to maintain corner carver, track day toy! Hey EZ, I like your ideas. I think they would change the target market for the bike, but there is nothing wrong with that. If I was going to make changes, and still have an inexpensive beginner type bike, the things I'd like to see are: - 17 inch wheels - Idler pulley - Transmission that doesn't grind I'm not sure how easy the 17 inch wheels would be, and the only reason I want them is to have better tire selection. It would require changes to the frame and suspension, so it's probably too big a change to retorfit onto the bike. The Idler pully on the XBs is a piece of genius. I'm thinking it must be a pretty cheap thing. I don't know if it would buy you anything w/o a suspension & frame redesign, but if it would, it seems like a great thing to have. A transmission that doesn't grind would make me feel a lot better. I have visions of metal breaking off in my transmission every time I shift gears. | ||

The new XB trannies are crunch proof, and with that R spoiler - all you'd have to do is safety wire the filter and tape the light lenses and you'd be ready for trackday fun - a single cyl. doesn't really need FI - just a well tuned carb with a secondary pump - like the sportsters have - lol Yeah - I've been chewing on this forever - this would be a great beginner bike for the sportbike fan - 50 hp and all the tools to grow into a great rider, simple maintenance and just a world of fun! Maul did teaching duty today - it was fun - the kids smile was a mile long and the girlfriend has been smiling since she started! - basics today - great memories for me and a learning experience for them! Definately the Darkside influencing the new riders!Great fun! GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

A funny thing happened today - on the way home my belt finally broke - lol - anyway - I pull over, and pull out my phone - dead - I rush into the store and ask to borrow their phone, I call the dealer and ask if they have a belt in stock - yes - could you bring it to me, I'm 10 blocks away - ok, we'll find somebody - thanks - I take out 3 bolts - finishing just as he arrives with the belt. The funny part is - people where still asking me about the bike, who makes it, where can you find one, etc. - I get the belt on, red locktite the bolts and put them back on - GNT - German torque values - lol - and rode off - I'd been suffering from a summer cold all weekend till this afternoon when I had to fix my bike - instant cure - go figure - the ride home was fun and with but a baggie full of tools - I fixed my bike - I love riding! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

I run without guards - remember that - but both bikes belts have gone now - one at a little over 13,000 and the other at just over 15,000. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

    Had a great day with Jim Nance - got to have the Red bike put through its paces - the road pictures are of the Oakville Grade - a road Cort C stated was one of the most technical in the Nation - very nice - less technical but equally as nice where the loop we did using 128 and 121 to Winters and back. The Plane pictures are us stopping at a private airport on 128 to check out some well kept WW aircraft - thats Jim in front of one of the planes. The roads were great, however, I still think 9 to 35 is more technical. Jim biffed the boot twice - lol - no harm, and he really enjoyed the bike - it was a great ride in wonderfull scenery - I think I wore him out, however, it was a great day of riding - we could definately do that again!
