Hey another quik question. I got the 03 XB9S. How can I tell if I got the race/sport package that everyone talks about adding to there bikes? I know that I have a Jardin RT-One (muffler) The rear coil spring below the seat is Yellow (not sure if this means anything). Also the tires I have on it are the brand called: SPORTEC M-1 Front size 120*70*zr17 Rear Size 180*55*zr17 --Are these tires worth a Poo? just asking before I start making 25 mile trips to work. I perfer the be warned if any. Thanks again all |

Yellow means that what you have is the XB9S (low) The sportec tires (if they aren't worn out) are awesome. |

diablobrian, Thanks man!! The tires are new, so sounds like I did ok . As for the coil spring, I would of never knew. All i know is my seat is the lower one. I also adjusted the ride to be more soft in the rear coil by turning is some. Now it does not ride so stiff as before w/ previous owner. How about the muffler? Do you think the whole exhaust is Jardin or just the muffler? Anyway to tell of that? Thanks |

Jardine is an aftermarket pipe. Check the ECM under the seat. If it has "Race Use Only" stamped on it, its definetly a race ECM. Post the part number here to be sure. Pull the airbox cover and check the filter, if it's pink(K&N), that's a race filter. The newer ones are not pink, so it's hard to tell. Yellow spring = XB9S-LOW. That means lowered suspension and seat for shorter riders, and a little less suspension travel. Not a big deal, I have one. Metzler Sportecs, I have heard(no personal experience), are pretty darn good. Congrats on the bike, you will love it. My $.03 Tank |

P.S. Suspension setup properly for your weight is very important with these bikes. Check your owners manual. If you didn't get one, we may be able to help you out on that. Let us know. Tank |

Check the number on your drive belt. Make sure its a upgraded model. According to many that lurk here, the original 03 belt was trouble. I bought a used 03 XB9 also, it had the upgraded belt and wheel bearings....thank goodness ! Enjoy yer Buell ! |

Tank, no manual, So I cannot confirm if this bike is setup for my weight As for part# on the exhaust, I could not find one Ok... so as for pully and belt. I should get he one for the Lighting 05 model? I mean once it happens? I know that the belt is new before I purchased it. Thanks guys for getting me safe on the road. -Newbie (Message edited by mikerocket on April 03, 2006) |

you want the updated/upgraded o3 belt, unless you intend to change the pulleys as well. Then you want the 06 belt (like the ones they put on the Ulysses) it's far beefier. the Jardine is a slip-on muffler. I have the same one on my bike. It is a great pipe for the money. Here are the recommended settings for the Xb12scg which is the 05-06 equivalent of your bike. Recommended Suspension Settings: 2005 XB12Scg available here: http://www.buell.com/om/99474-05Y_en/file-5.asp#table-hdtopic000393-1 As always these are just recommended STARTING points. Not the end-all, be-all. |

You don't need the dealer for setting up suspension. On the chart, that Diablobrian provided, the numbers for compression & rebound are the amount of turns from full in. i.e. If you weigh 190-210lbs with gear you would turn the compression knob on the forks (bottom of for legs) all the way in until it lightly seats (stops). Then you turn it out 1 & 1/2 turns (1.5) Turn the rebound knobs (top of forks) all the way in until it seats then turn it out 1 & 1/4 turns. You need a 7/8 wrench to turn the preload adjusters in or out (directly below rebound knobs) until 4 & 1/2 are exposed. The rear rebound is on the shock itself. Just peek under the bike on the left side & you'll see it. Compression adjuster is on the reservoir under the seat. Both are adjusted just like the fork rebound & compression. 2 turns out for compression, one turn out for rebound. Preload is adjusted via a collar on the shock accessible under the seat as well. It requires a spanner wrench. There are 7 notches. The 4th notch is for 190-210 lbs. I don't know what you weigh so you gotta check the chart to see what settings are for your weight but I hope this helps you. |

If you scroll up from the chart you will find the factory suspension tuning guide. It has pics of where the adjusters are located and tells you in detail how to make the adjustments. Like Metalstorm said, you don't need the dealer for this. In fact, except for a select few, they would be more likely to make it worse than it is now. |

that should do the trick. Be careful to follow the chart for the low/scg suspension. |
