SWEEET!!! Now I just have to wait to see if they will be affordable. I really can't see anything about the Ducati that I can't wrench on myself, Setting the valves is a pain but it's not black magic, changing rear isolators in a tuber isn't fun either but it can be done also. I'm not affraid to wrench on my own bikes. I've talked to several people that own Ducati's and they've all said the service isn't that bad to do yourself. Just becouse you have to check the valves every 5K doesn't mean you will have to adjust them every time either if they are in spec. I personally like the tall, upright dirt bike feel. It's one of the things that first drew me to the S1. I'm also willing to bet it could hold it's own in the corners. To me its the next step for the hooligan bike. I really don't like the looks of the XB's, I've always been a tube frame fan. I'm sure the XB's are great but they just don't have the same hand formed look/feel as the tubers, just to "cookie cutter" for me.. The new Ducati has the cool tuber look that I like plus some and the performance to back it up! It's all personal preference and everyone has their own likes and dislikes. The Uly's suspension isn't as radically tall as that thing. Maybe it's me, but I don't buy bikes based on looks. It's about performance, tuneability, ease of wrenching, comfort, in basically that order. |

Hey guys, thanks for the chuckles! It's clear that a Ducati is not every man's bike. Personally, my F.I. Duc SS is about as reliable as any bike I've owned. Like Rocketman said, it just ain't that bad to wrench a Duc. If you fall for that line, you're depriving yourself of a great riding motorcycle. No complaints from me about that. Be deprived, stay deprived. Like the V-twin powering your Buell's the L-twin is undergoing constant refinement and the 1000DS is another step along the way. Has anyone read a bad review for the 1000DS based bikes? Ducati's new Sport Classic series are all 1000DS powered bikes. However, there's really not enough of them on the street to get an accurate appraisal for their road-worthiness and dependability. Ducati is not likely to strike out with the Supermotard bikes. I doubt they'll be produced in numbers/quantity similar to Buell. Likely much less. But those who do buy them will get a fine handling and reliable motorcycle with plenty of aftermarket support to 'correct' things like comfort; the Multistrada was released with a widely and generally lamented seat that was quickly remedied by the aftermarket and in later model years by Ducati. Believe me, $150 for the MB shim kit is a small price to pay for the performance and the extended valve adjustment interval. And oh by the way, when I had my SS valve adjustment at it's regularly scheduled interval, I think the vertical exhaust valve had to have a shim replaced. The other 3 were easily within spec. $200 for a full service that included changing fork oil, brake fluid, engine oil--full synthetic--shim check and adjustment and a general going over at the dealership. Cake friends, cake. Did you guys realize that all Ducati bikes use the same oil filter? How simple is that. Really, the only folks complaining about Ducati valve adjustments are those who don't ride a Ducati... |

200.00 isnt't bad for that much service. XB would have been more. My .02 has changed. If there were no Buells then maybe a Duc. I do like the looks of every ducati. And of course the sound. |

Why do people seem to think you can only have ONE motorcycle? Keep the Buell, get that Ducati!. Ride them equally and when it comes time to sell, the bikes will be 'low mileage' to boost sale price! (of course, that higher value probably won't be enough to cover the added expenses-insurance, maintainence, registrations, etc.- of owning multiple bikes.) I saw that Duc at the IMS and it was REALLY nice, but seemed to be a bit limited as to type of use. AL |

After this thread -- I looked more closely at a st3 with ABS. It's damn near perfect. Twin power plant, good power, single side swing arm, chain, bags, windshield, tube frame, Just not sure about the FI system or mpg. |

Screw the Ducs. Man I wouldn't ride those wastes of good metal for nuthin'. In fact i'd asoon drag one around behind my truck than have to ride one. And that horrible racket of an exhaust tune they create, it's like dragging your finger nails down a chalk board. Heeheehee just kidding! I'm just picturing Rockets veins bulging out on his forehead and blood pressure rising as he's reading this. I do love the Ducs just not as much as my Buell! |

Ryker, Ducati FI? There's a problem? Haven't heard about any yet... MPG? It's alll in your wrist. Bone stock my SS was in the 47MPG range for moderate highway use. Typically 44-45 in the city. When I opened the air box and fitted a complete exhaust system I used the PCIII---which by the way is the only improvement needed for the FI, not that it needs any improvement, it's just a noticeably smoother throttle response--fuel mileage actually increased to 50-52 highway and in some instances I've gotten it up to 55MPG with a steady drone at 70MPH. I've also pushed it down to 38-40. Keep in mind that the 900-1000DS motors like to run 4500-5000RPM's. With 6 gears, just not a problem. Actually, quite pleasurable. |
