Rocketfella, Ozzies got big eyes from having to keep an eye out for Pommy traps....... I think if Buells had never been built, I would have thought that bike was great, but it's too close to the original design to not look like a bastardized version. Maybe in the flesh it looks better? Are you commenting on Heins taste about his bike? I took it for a ride today and offered to buy it from him when I got back. If it's as sweet above 4000 revs as it is below, it's going to be a very nice bike to own. It's also one that looks better in the flesh than in a picture. Are you coming to Croix via A'dam? Will you be here Tuesday night? PPiA |

Hey Treich, since you're taking that primary off, take a real good look at your chain tensioner. If the plate that the rubbing block slides onto is about 1/8 inch thick, you have the old style. REPLACE IMMEDIATLY!!! if it's about 1/4 " you have the good one, inspect carefully for cracks around the adjusting bolt head before buttoning er up. |

For Ricky from 25 Apr Post: "I'm going try to load the pictures of the Supertrapp mods I made. The first is showing the 'rolled' piece cut off. The second picture shows the 'funnel' that protrudes inward is cut off. Now go look at your stock one and see the differance. Hope this helps." |

Bigblock, I had just bought a tensioner from Tat @ ASB. When you say the new version of tensioner has a 1/4" thick plate, are you talking about the "U" shaped plate the tensioning block rides up and down in? |

Mine, that I bought, is a Hayden Enterprises M6 chain tensioner. The thickness of the "U" shape plate is 1/8" on the one that Tat sent me. Should I return it for a newer model or am I mis-understanding what you talked about? |

Sorry, I guess I should have asked if you were talking about the chain tensioner that comes stock or an automatic chain tensioner. I'm having the M6 automatic chain tensioner installed when dealer comletes 1000 mile break-in service. |

Dart, I'm referring to the stock, adjust it yourself tensioner! I have heard raves about the automatic tensioner, though, But I was also told you should check them and possibly replace the spring and rubbing block every 10,000 mi? |

Okay...I want to put a pipe and Forcewinder on my '00 M2, but I can't seem to get a clear idea of what others' experiences have been. Here are my initial impressions: V&H - A bit loud but a good pipe if mounts hold Supertrapp IDS - Nice looking/discs are a pain Daytona BOSS - Heavy duty/Loud Two Bros - ????? White Bros - Similar to Supertrapp EDS Please help this Bueller make a good choice. I want a throaty pipe that is not TOO loud. Also, I don't want to lose the incredible mid-range that the stock M2 has. Thanks for any help!! |

rippin: there's a front view pic of the boss in archive through Jan 9, 2001. i thought i saw others but couldn't locate. just put a V&H SS2R on my '01 X1. i don't think its very loud at all. i'm told that it will get louder as the packing burns out. my SS2R contacts the primary chain adjustment screw, may eventually wear a hole in the muff. if and when it does, may try running the wileyco or the boss. |

Y2k01x1, My V&H has been touching the primary adjustment screw for the past 7K miles. Nothing has come of it. Rippin, the exhaust is still holding storng on my 99M2 and I have taken it off more than a few times. I would have preferred to be able to adjut the primary without removing the exhaust though. It is loud and mean, but not abnoxious. It's what the bike is supposed to sound like. Quieter than my friends low-rider, but loud enough where a stock ZX-6R rider was complaining that he does not like riding with us cause he can't here his bike. |

I have bought a V&H slip on exhaust, and am wondering if I can make it a little louder by taking out the fiberglass or maybe cutting part or all of the baffel out!I am pleased with the performance of the pipe and am wanting to make it louder, but dont want to sacrifice H.P. by hacking away!!Would appreciate any help with this !!Thanks is you have any!! |

Louder? Seriously??? But then again, I have played drums for the past 25 years, and don't like loud noises. I had some of the packing blow out and I changed it becuase I felt it was too loud. In my crowded mind, it also felt a little less responsive. |

Lee I must concur on the responsive issue. I too took the packing out and felt it lost resp. also had a tinier? high note at certain rpm's that my ears did not like. Which system did you say you had on the M2? Thanks agian Ryan |

Hey guys, if you are going to unpack your V&H, pull the baffle tubes also, or else they might break, and then you'll end up with a real nasty vibration as it rattles around, and then when you want to repack it, you'll have to order a new baffle as well as new packing! And you should probably richen that carb up if you do it. My baffle broke just because I didn't repack it in time, I never dissasemled the thing till it broke! I'm not riding untill my baffle shows up, it runs too lean now, and I don't feel like rejetting for a couple days of riding! |

richieg150: i just put a v&h SS2R on my 2001 X1 and its not nearly loud enough for me. i just came off of a harley twin-cam 88 with rb racing lsr 2-into-1's. let me know what happens if you remove the packing and baffles from your v&h. i don't know if i can wait til the packing burns out. |

bigblock: thinking about unpacking my v&h slip-on. is it difficult to pull the baffle tubes? have a 2001 X1 with DDFI and race ECM. hoping the race ECM can compensate for increased flow. does anyone else have any experience, advice, tips, warnings, about unpacking a v&h slip-on? thanx! |

treich: how's the experiment with the $10.00 midas slip-on going? eagerly awaiting some info from you. do you have any plans of trying to tune the pipe by adjusting its length (longer/shorter)? i'm wondering how a much shorter pipe might work. essentially just a 2.5" elbow attached to the stock collector with no mounts at all. |

hey never mind everybody. i couldn't wait so i unpacked my V&H slip-on as soon as i got home from work today. whew...what a difference. is it loud? YES! is it obnoxious? VERY! are my neighbors gonna be pissed? MOST LIKELY! much louder, much higher tone, not much deep throaty rumble, may be louder than my twin-cam 88 harley with rb-racing pipes, did not notice any change in throttle response, seat of the pants: same, maybe better. definitely get much more attention from cage drivers in traffic, they know i'm there. very simple and straightforward procedure. took less time to drop muffler, unpack, and reinstall than it took to install the V&H the first time. will run X1 like this until i hear something i like better. still want to hear a daytona boss. |

Hey Bob, Do you think if I unpack my V&H that I can put its "stuffings" back in if I "wuss out" and decide it's too loud? I'd like to give it a try this weekend - most of my friend's Harleys are louder than my Buell; and when we start them up, I can't hear mine well enough to set my choke. (how's that for rationalizing?) |

chuck: if you unpack your v&h, it will definitely be louder than most harley's on the road. yes you can reinstall the packing if you wuss out. the baffle itself is spot welded to a steel plate and the steel plate is screwed to the billet end cap with three allen head screws. i unscrewed and removed my baffle and then found out that you need that steel plate to hold the little tail pipe piece in place so i cut the baffle off. you may want to try just removing the fiberglass packing and running the v&h with the baffle, although, according to bigblock, the baffle could eventually break off and cause you problems. my baffle had only a couple hundred miles on it and seemed pretty sturdy so i think it would have held for a while. if your baffle is in good shape, try running it with just the baffle; you might like it. tip for removing billet end cap: mine was attached with four allen head screws. after removing screws, while sitting on floor, clamp the front elbow end of the muffler between your boots and pull the end cap straight off. no problem, and no screwdriver scratches or gouges. |

Well Bob, I couldn't wait. I did the dirty deed yesterday. I made some tiny L brackets to hold the "little tail pipe piece" -- sort of a cluge, but no one will see. My wife and I rode it last night and she said it sounds fine; so I may do what you did and cut the baffle's end off. Harleys must be louder in my town because I still don't think my bike is as loud as most...but its faster |

Chuck, if you're running a carb, I'd seriously consider richening her up, unless you were way rich before you gutted your pipe. My bike was definitely tuned a step on the rich side, and w/ gutted pipe, it still ran WAY lean, so you guys please be nice to your motors when you gut those pipes! (Of course, if you got the A/F right, then please abuse mercilessly!) |

Hey Ray, I think I was "fat" to begin with. My bike is a 2000 M2. I put in a 45 pilot and set the screw at 3 turns out. The factory main in my bike was a 200 which I think was too big; but maybe with the pipe it will be more appropriate. Since I've gutted the pipe, it actually seems to run better down low. I'll evaluate the main with a high speed run tomorrow; but I'm betting it will be pretty good. I'm thinking though that I'll have to experiment a bit with the needle and/or its "position". Don't worry --- I usually do abuse mercilessly |
