Alrighty, very basic questions, if I put the factory race muffler, k&n filter and race ECM on my 03 XB9r... will I be able to drive it to the dealer (which is approx 45 miles away) with no problems? I need to reset the TPS after the ECM install right? I can only do the TPS reset at the dealer... right? Now that it is starting to warm up here in NH, I want to ride the hell out of it... so I need any and all info FAST! lol Thanks for your help. -=2VULGAR=- |

Tim, I can't agree with that answer. The TPS can be anywhere from in the ballpark to not even close. In some cases, the bike won't even start or run. In other cases, it is very close. Its a total crapshoot. A better solution is to swap the ECM out in the parking lot. It only takes about 6 tools If you're dealer is that far away, the best solution is to just get VDSTS and do your TPS reset yourself. Al |

If you change the ECM the TPS must be reset. |

What Al Says. Mine would not start with the race ECM. I rode to the dealers, then I did the swap in the dealers lot. Took about 10 minutes. |

I installed my race ecm with an Odie pipe and didn't reset the TPS. My bike seems to run great. I will reset it if the bike starts to run funny. |

Alright, thanks guys... looks like I will prob just ride to Merideth HD and change it in the parking lot. Just the windshield, mirrors, and blinkers have to come of to get the front fairing off... right? -=2VULGAR=- |

Leave the windscreen in place, just remove the 2 windscreen screws at the bottom/front. Those are the ones anchored to the fairing brace. |

Different bike. Firebolts are behind the front fairing. Lightnings/Ulysses are under the seat. |

I changed to a race ECM and left the TPS alone for a while and it ran great. Put the bike in for a service which included TPS check and when I got it back it ran just the same as before. I guess its just your Donald Duck (luck!) |

thats basically what i ment by saying some dont get there tps reset but most do. some bikes wont run very good or even at all. on the other hand quit a few do. i agree it does seem to depend bike to bike as each are different. |

Don't depend on the luck of the draw. Not worth the risk. |

ok well i just plugged mine in and it ran for about a minute then would not run anymore. had to plug the stock unit back in and it seems to be fine on a test ride so i guess i will be doing the parking lot swap on saturday at the HD dealer. I didnt remove the stock unit just left the race ecm laying there during the test. is there any reason why it has to be mounted in place on my CityX just to see if it will run. i am sure that it will require the needed tps reset but figured i would ask. |

i read in the knowledge vault were another Bueller installed the race ecm and then immediately rode the bike a few mile in 4th to lead the bike learn whats going on. is this just a fluke thing or has anyone else come across this. i was thinking of trying this but dont want to damage anything....any insight would be great |

That is how the bike learns it's fuell tables. You should still set the TPS, it will not do this on it's own. |

i just let it run the first time and it died. so i figured that it wasnt going to work. i am going to try to have the tps done tomorrow if i have time but if it will learn and run for now then i can put it off. My little girl has her birthday tomorrow and i will get crucified if i miss it but dont want to put it off too long |

Hey Txfatcat Do not take it to the 610 store, try the 290 store. I sent you a PM but have not heard from you. Sent me an E-mail if you can today at sgilmore@bpxfilms.com. I would like to hook up for a ride. |
