Help!
I have a new (yes brand new) 2002 M2 Cyclone that I am breaking in. It's fitted with a full Buell race kit and pulls like a trooper. The only problem that I'm having has to do with the carb. At a steady speed of 2500-3500 rpm it seems to "hiccup" causing a miss. If I roll on the throttle, the condition goes away. I would really like to get this figured out because other than this problem, the bike runs flawlessly. Thanks in advance to all who reply.

If it has the race kit, it will have to be rejetted to run right.
Be careful, you might be running it lean.

(lean=hot hot=bad)

Yeah, it REALLY sounds too lean. Recommend STRONGLY that you re-jet both midrange and main jets bigger.

What I would do at this point is switch to a Mikuni HS42 carb - it's easier to tune and works way better without an air chamber in front of it, which we all tend to ditch at the first opportunity on tubers : ).

If you keep running it like it is you can burn a hole in a piston.

Check the low speed jet, it should be at least a "45".

DC.

Main jet should be fine as evidenced by how your bike is running and much experience.

Up the slow speed jet to #45 and adjust idle mixture screw to optimize idle. See service manual for more details.

I think Dennis meant to say "180" main jet. Your M2 should have a 190 main jet stock I believe.

Also, please verify that you are running the "new" 10R12 sparkplugs, the old ones were too hot. This is important.

Thanks to all who replied.
I took the bike to my tuner today for some dyno time.
After 4 runs, he installed a 20 thou shim under the needle, drilled the slide to 102 thou and installed a "cap" on the tapered part of the needle to eliminate some of the raw gas that was being sprayed in the carb at low speed. I should add that he races an 88 cubic inch X1 that makes 125hp at the rear wheel. Anyway, the bike now makes 80hp and 79ft/lbs of torque. This is 1hp and 4 ft/lbs better than when we started. Best of all, it now runs great! No hiccups, farting or spitting from the carb. Thanks again to everyone.
