Well the valve spring compressor I have does not quite get the job done. Anyone in the San Diego area have one I can borrow this weekend? If not I will be ordering one on Monday. Thanks again. See what I get for thinking the one I had would work.

Cancel that request. Is it a bit overkill? YES. But it sure was easy pulling those valve springs off. I got it at the local NAPA. It was like a 100.00 but thats still cheaper than the 130 or so I was going to pay for the Jims one plus I can continue to work on my bike this weekend now. I am a happy camper.

Yo, I might be wrong but looking at the compressor you've bought, which looks similar to mine, the problem will be putting the valves back in.

Whilst I do have stronger poundage springs, even so, the lever ratio on the compressor I have, which looks similar to yours, is very very hard to pull down and compress the springs when they're fully extended. It's easy when the spring is already compressed for you when taking the valves out, but the other way, building back up, is tough.

I placed a rectangular alloy tube about a foot long over the handle of my compressor to give me more leverage but it still took two of us because the strength needed to pull the compressor down and hold it took two hands. I also had the head locked in a vice.

Good luck anyway. I mean it will work but it might not be as straightforward as you hope.

I had the whole assembly ( valves, springs, etc..) out and back in in about 5 (ok maybe 10)minutes I would say. I didn't have to use hardly any leverage to compress the springs. To say it was easy to compress the springs is an understatement. Only thing I can guess is you have a very stiff spring rate or a compressor that is a bit harder to work with than mine.

I was doing a big bore kit until someone hit my Impala SS that was parked in front of my house. It was like 7500.00 in damage so all my motor funds went from my bike to my car getting fixed. So the reason I had to change the one head is not only was I lucky enough to be one of the very few to have a header stud snap off on the XB platforms but, I had two studs snap off in the same head. So R&R of the head. I will still be doing a big bore kit in the future but maybe it was a sign to hold off on the kit. The XBRR motor is looking pretty good but I am not wanting all the parts from that. Only the case itself. All the other internals I will purchase from different manufacturers to achieve what I want. Hope that answers your question.

I just wanted to see what others were doing to their XBs. I eventually want to up the power on my 9r. I was thinking of Rev. Performance 1050 bolt on kit..because I like the sound of "bolt on" I don't really want to get into boring...but who knows...I just hate having down time on my bike cause i can't go too long without riding it....
