Here is a WAV file of the "new" muffler on my 9R. http://www.geocities.com/bloose2/Newmuffler.wav I don't know if y'all remember but I wanted to make my own from the factory muffler. Well, except for paint it's done. I took some pics of it while it was in progress and as soon as I get it painted I put up a web page about it. When Spring roll around I'll take it to the dyno and see how it works. Unfortunately I didn't dyno it before so I'll only know if I'm way off power wise, but no real comparison of stock. For now I just started it up in the basement where I store it and it was quite load. A bit loader than I wanted but we'll see what it sounds like outside. Let me know what you think. B-loose |

Basically I gutted the muffler and extended the 2" pipe from the header straight through the muffler. I also put in a Car Chemistry 2 disc insert. The insert is supposed to not only reduce sound but also speed the flow of exhaust. The muffler is lighter and quite a bit shorter. It was quite a bit of work but now that I've done it once it would be a lot less. I have less than $100 into it. As soon as I get time I'll have a web page up with pictures. B-loose |

I guess I'm limited to how many MB's can be down loaded per hour. If you can't get it try again later. B-loose |

Here's a new link. Should not have limited access like the old one. http://bloose2.com/Newmuffler.wav B-loose |

Definitely louder than stock. Maybe louder than race kit. Hard to tell from clip. Sounds blatty like a D&D (not a bad thing). Good job, Bloose. How's it run? |

Interesting, but not my style. I'll keep my Special OPS - has a much deeper tone to it. |

I won't really know how it runs until spring. I store the bike in my basement for the winter so I really can't run it for more than a few seconds. As for sound I think I should have gone with the 3 disc setup. Would have been a bit quieter. It's too late now and once it's outside it may be just right. B |

Here are some pictures until I get a chance to put together a site about it. OK, It was warm enough to take the bike for a spin today. No stumbles at all. Bike ran nice and clean. Seat o the pants dyno says maybe some HP gain but not really sure. I have an appointment for the dyno next Friday. There is one problem though, it's too load. I was looking for some more sound but it's too much for me. I've got a muffler from a 12 lined up and maybe a couple of 9 mufflers on e-bay if the bidding stay low (missed a 9 muffler for $30 today). I have a few idea's I'd like to try that should increase flow while reducing sound from my present level. I may even try the Car Chemistry 3 disc insert and see how that works. If it were not quite as loud I would have called it a total success. I'm having fun playing though, so we'll see what I come up with. If I come up with a nice formula that dyno's well I'll post it up. B-loose |
