i have a 04 12s with a jardine and stock headers wrapped. I was thinking about doing the open airbox befor ecm upgrade and was wondering how they work in heavy rain. My bike will sometimes sputter and die in a torrential downpour while idleing at the light. It rains alot where i live, do you guys think its worth it? Do they make that big of a difference anyhow? | ||

Yz450kid, You might want to check your front and even your rear spark plug wire as the front have known to rub the inside of the frame and that will cause your plms. in the rain just a thought , happened to two of mine xb`s so far... as far as rain on the open air box I have my inner and outer all cut out no plms. with mine in the light rain I try not to drive in the rain But don`t think it wd. be a plm... | ||

no experience with the open airbox kit but.. . i drilled my airbox last summer swiss cheese style, unbelievable how many times i was out in the rain, felt like every ride... lots of sand in the back of the airbox plate so water was getting in, little hesitation on the highway once doing maybe ~60MPH in crazy, crazy downpour but otherwise the XB just hummed every other time. ive since gone back to stock inner but i think that setup is fine in normal rainy weather. | ||

With the setup Hogs and I are running, if open airbox was a problem, we could tell ya. When travelling to ILL. last Oct. I got caught in the rainstorm of the century, bike never even breathed herd. The next day when I when to start her, she fired right up, ran a little lower RPM's for about 3 seconds(maybe 6-700 RPM's),so it shouldn't be a problem. | ||

I have the American Sportbike kit and I got caught in some majour toad stranglers here last summer. I'm talking puddles up to the footpegs and no problems...Other than I got wet. Hell I got so wet, I was wet on the inside. But the Buell ran fine. |
