Posted this in the XB Archive under the Special Ops thread, but thought it should be posted here, also. If you are considering the Special Ops Tailgunner, this is what I posted: Received and installed my Special O.P.S. Tailgunner pipe today. My Uly has finally found the voice it was meant to have. Thanks Odie, you outdid yourself. The only drawback is that I lost the sneaky-fast effect of the Uly. Gonna have to be careful to look around before accelerating now. I'm not the only one that will know, anymore. |

What did you do air filter/ECM wise? |

Nothing. The Special Ops Tailgunner utilizes the exhaust valve. |

HELP! I'd love to put Odie's KA Special Ops Tailgunner on my Uly, but I'm paranoid about voiding my warranty. Does anyone have a definitive answer? I spoke with a dealer in the Atlanta area who suggested that I not only put the Tailgunner on, but replace the ECM, Air Filter. THANKS! |

Changing to the race ECM may be a problem with the Tailgunner, as it has the exhaust valve and the race ECM will not operate it. |

I'm running the Tailgunner with no other mods. It's running great with no signs of a lean condition. It just rips! I think Odie has hit the mark by retaining the exhaust valve. |

Brotherbuell, is it still as "torque"y" at low RPMs? I'd like to smooth that out. |

I actually noticed an improvement though I don't know why. I have a long, slightly sloped driveway and I experience that first gear that "snatchyness" most when I pull out. I know that that is related to the first gear ratio but for some reason it seemed less noticeable since I put the Special Ops pipe on. I think it's because I'm on it a bit more just to hear it roar! |

I e-mailed Odie, have not heard back from him yet.. I would like to clear up the 2500-3000 rpm stutter/leaness/ roughness whatever it its, and does it clean up that low rpm miss and spit back/cough at off idle? This would be a good deal if you did not have to re-map the FI, I don't know if my dealer could do it right even with a factory "race kit". I would probably have to hire Chad to come to Indiana to get it done right. |

I spoke with Odie and he had some excellent insight into the issue. Go figure, the guy who designed the pipe, right? I've decided to put the Tailgunner on and leave the ECM and Air Filter alone for now. I understand that a download may be available soon for the stock ECM that is configured for Odie's pipe and a high flow air filter. So, I'm waiting for that. In the mean time, I can't wait for my Uly to sound off properly!! |

I am waiting for my Drummer. I am going to get it Dynoed prior to install and after install to see what it brings to the table. Kevin has been very good to deal with and I am told the muffler will be made on Monday. Does anyone out there have a dyno test on the Uly before and after install on either the Special Ops or the Drummer. |

Aeholton, is it the sound file Odie has or one that you made? Wow, if the orange one sounds good, the black one should sound great! Sorry, just had to get in on the Black v. Orange |

I made my sound file while riding in traffic. I believe Odie's sound file was made while just sitting on the kick stand. I guess the Orange one will just have to settle for being faster and looking better. |

Hey Odie, How much for a "Special Ops" with large slash-cut bare tips? I like the look of the "Drummer" but I want to keep the exhaust valve and the performance without having to change the ECM. Mine runs just fine as stock but I do like to hear that rumble as long as it's not too loud. WOT loud is OK but easy running should be more quiet for those long trips. I'll bet that could be easy with the exhaust valve opening up for more flow at WOT. Or maybe even sell me a take-off cheap so I can do it myself? I have a TIG welder and like to play! I just want to keep the stocker in case I ever want to sell it, or the EPA/CARB people get what they want.... Ready to go for it! BC Steve |
