Yesterday, I made a quick visit through Daytona due to the show. Due to my schedule, I couldn't make it until later in the day and missed out on some of the activities. However, during that visit I met a guy who works with both Harley and Buell in a position that I guess could be best described as the press secretary for the cycle mag journalists. I can't remember his name, but he was a very nice guy. He was waiting on some friends near the east gate on the racetrack property perched atop a ULY. For whatever reason, since I have bought my ULY in August last year, I have never seen another owner in person. As such, I approached the guy to see what his impression was of the machine. He said that he has only owned his bike a few months but appears to really enjoy it as well. I began to question him about the tire situation that has been a regular topic regarding 'swimming' of the front end and longevity. He informed me the R&D department of Buell has been doing alot of testing and found the Syncs were the tire to have. Apparently the 'swimming problem' is related to the open tread pattern on the Dunlop tire and the Syncs were now the tire of choice. The only downfall is the lack of offroad ability the Dunlops provide. On another note. I also got to see the new XBRR go around the track at Daytona. Be prepared for a much different sound on your TV when you see this thing race with the Japanese bikes. The sound alone should intimidate the other rides to move or get out of the way. |

I've been a big opponent to the Dunlops. I don't like them. I don't ride offroad, so I don't care if I give up any offroad performance. Even if I do go offroad, it's typically through hard pack gravel or dirt, and even race slicks would do fine as long as you don't try to navigate through the stuff at high speeds. A 500lb bike with a 225lb rider that has no experience in the dirt is not a good combination. I'll stick to the pavement and if I wanna ride dirt, I'll go buy a used 250cc dirtbike and ride the hell out of it. I can't wait to change the tires on my Ulysses. I've got my rear Diablo Strada in the garage now...waiting for the "free" front to arrive. |

Chad you will be so impressed with that tire choice. I don't know if "I can hardly wait for my tire to wear out" so I can change mine but when I do it will be to the Stradas for sure. You will probably increase mileage on those tires by at least 30% from the stock Dunlops. Stradas have the harder rubber compound in the center and a softer high traction compound on the sides. It is quite a technological step Perelli has taken. I know other companies do this too but I believe the Stradas do it the best. |

I'm on the Strada wagon too. One of my buddies has them on his VFR800 and loves them. We have pretty much the same riding profile aside from my occasional excursion on dirt roads. |
