I'm installing a XB12 airbox on my 03 XB9S & planning on desnorkling. I've read in some threads that people cut it down an inch or two while others completely removed it. Any input?? What works best?

Don't get the velocity stack and the snorkel confused. DO NOT cut or remove the velocity stack! The piece in the middle of the air filter. The snorkel is located on the left side of the frame spar. Just grab hold and pull it out.

Ok here is a noob question. Why would anyone change to a XB12 airbox or "desnorkle" it?

Is the snorkle to help with rain? For that matter, does having a snorkle mean I can ride in four feet of water?

The 12 lid has a nipple molded into the top to induce a cyclone effect into the intake. I have one on my 9 and it seems to breathe just fine.I've also got an aftermarket exhaust and race ecm installed. Didn't bother to desnorkel it, the 12 lid has extra slits cut in the side from the factory so no need to cut it. Pretty cheap mod too at like $35 bucks.

The 12 air box has an inverted nipple over the velocity stack that improves air flow. 05 and later 9s have the 12 airbox from the factory. It adds 3 hp I've been told.About 35 dollars cheap HP.Takeing out the snorkle allowes a little more air flow.I think the reason for it was sound control. Some people have said their bike ran better with, it others have said theirs ran better without it. Easy to remove to try or to put back.

Thank's guys. I've installed the airbox & de-snorkled. I've noticed quicker throttle response & a little more kick in the low end. like Xb9ser said... 35 dollars, cheap HP.
