Well, was spraying the studs down with penetrating oil, pending the exhaust swap.. Anyway, I noticed the rear lower nut is missing off the stud..guess I dont have to worry about breaking THAT stud... Anyway, quesition is..what it the nut size.. grade...etc... I have a manual...but I dont believe its gonna tell me that...and I am sure, buying them from HD, they will be like 10bucks a pop... Anyway, really hoping to get this done this week...I have been itcing to do this, as I have had this exhuast since the end of January...not to polish all the alluminium..and get a new black derby cover.. Chase, Don't go to HD for the fasteners. If memory serves right, I believe they are 5/16 size, but can't remember if fine or course. The studs themselves are course on 1 end and fine on the other. I use stainless nuts and lock washers. The stock nuts have the lock washer built in as they are crush nuts (small flat spots to help grab and hold the nut on). Also make sure you use antiseaze and not locktite when you re-install your nuts. You will thank me later when you don't break the studs. |

the HD nuts are not at all expensive -- they work pretty darned well, but, as Mr Blue intimates, they are not stainless, and will rust up on ya PDQ -- of course, even stainless isn't stainless (stain resistant, yes), and will eventually rust, but not nearly so quickly |

Make sure you put on the updated front exhaust mount, or they will rattle off again. And count yourself *darn* lucky, loosing one nut is what usually causes the opposing stud to shear flush (which is a royal PITA). Those studs are an interference fit. This is probably a function of the threading on the stud and not the nut, but just to play it safe, I would use the factory parts. |

i am pretty sure they are a NF thread, i use two per stud, one as a jam nut against the other. so far, so good, 4 years no issues |

I bought an extra set of the exhaust nuts from the stealer about 6 months ago. Cost me like $2.00 total. I doubled up on the nuts and have had no more problems with the headers vibrating loose since then. Before, I had to retighten them about every other week. |
