I found a decent deal on an XB12Ss with 400 miles on it. He has the exhaust, no ecm or filter. I doubt I'll need the extra power that the whole kit provides, but will enjoy the sound that the exhaust gives. Ok to run this way? If filter/ecm is stock, will I still run lean with just the pipe this way? |

you should be fine as long as you don't do anything with the airfilter/cover. |

I strongly disagree. If you value the health of your engine, I recommend that you don't do it. |

Went to look at Lightning Long today, and although it is a Buell exhaust, it does not have the butterfly valve in it. He said it is a muffler for the XB9, that works with the 12 motors. I'm passing on this one. Thanks for input. |

The Buell Pro-Series Race Exhaust does not retain the flapper valve, so he could be correct. Was the muffler shiney silver or matte finish grey/silver? That is the difference between the race exhaust for a 9 and a 12. The 12 is the polished version. |

Here's the pic. Thanks for info on flapper valve. Looks like the XB9 muffler is on it. http://www.sporttwin.com/uploads/forums/100_0455.jpg |

Looks like the 12 version that needs some buffing to me. The 9 version is rough and very dull. Like this:

He's got 319 miles on his '06 XB12Ss. Asking $9,500 obo. I would imagine not too much could have happened to the engine in that amount of time without ecm and filter to compliment the exhaust, eh? |

I'm confused. "Fits '03-later XB models (except '06 XB12X)." |

yeah whoever is in charge of that website goes to work on a short bus every day. same items listed more than once and misleading descriptions on some items. Also the listing of accessories is far from complete. i need to stop here or i will rant on and on about it |

I'm thinking I like the Special Ops exhaust, as it keeps that flapper to flatten out torque curve. I can run this without ecm and filter, right? |

My XB9 is kitted. The muffler is polished. |

Like I mentioned, they are the same except for the coating on the outside. i.e. a Race pipe for a 12 is the same as the pipe for the 9, they just have a different appearance on the outside. The reason that it does not fit on the 12X is because of the long suspension, the angle of the belt could cause it to come in contact with the muffler tip. To reiterate this one more time.....you can use either pipe, they are the same, they just look different. Get the one that you think looks the best to you. That is the difference between the race exhaust for a 9 and a 12. The 12 is the polished version. Yes, you did say that. And, I got the one that looked the best to me. To stress this one more time..I don't think this statement came off very well, I think you meant reiterate. |

I have the race muffler on my 12X and have no issues with the muffler hitting the belt. It's close at full extension, but it doesn't hit. |

So, ok to run Special ops pipe without ecm and filter? What's your opinion 99buellx1? Others? |

What about running a D&D muffler on an XB with the stock filter and race ECM? (filter is on order) |

28k with just a 9 race muffler on a 12, just recently installed a K&N filter, still no ecm. No engine trouble or running problems for me. |

Sik, I just got through with the D&D with Race exhaust and got better results with the stock ECM. I also thought the difference between the can on the 9 and the can on the 12 was the lack of an exhaust valve in the 9. |
