I looked seriously at the Aprilia RSV 100R and the Ducati Monster, what helped me decide was my Buell was a real nice contrast to my girlfriends Sportster. I would have looked at a tube frame for sure, still wouldn't mind finding a nice one for a project bike....as if I need another bike! |

I bought a new tube frame (leftover) well after the XB bikes were available. I love the XBs but wanted to get the Tuber experience first. |

I have owned several motorcyles including an Aprilia, and Ducati (my wife still rides one) and I love them. Then I bought a Buell X1 lightning because of the way it looked and being American made. Not long after that they introduced the XB models and I was hooked and now own an XB12S. I still like the naked tube frame bikes and if Buell had not come up with the XB design.... yeah I think I would.

Not sure if I fit the question, I owned a tuber prior to owning an XB. I loved the heck out of my '99 M2 while I had it, but I was searching for something more aggressive and getting dangerously close to buying an Aprilia Falco or a Superhawk. I liked the XB9R, but I was looking for a step up in power from my lightly modded Cyclone. Also, XB9s were still a bit pricey at the time. Even though I was working at an HD/Buell dealer I probably could have gotten out the door with a leftover '02 Falco R for the same price as a current '03 XB9R. As it turns out, Buell announced the XB12s the very same weekend that I found a buyer for my Cyclone. If Buell hadn't released the XB12s when they did I would have bought the Falco. |

When I first went shopping, I searched around for "beginner" bikes and ended up debating between the SV650 or Honda 599. But luckily, while driving along with my windows down, an M2 thundered by. I caught him at the next light and read on the side "American Motorcycles" and was forever hooked on Buell. Would have bought an M2 if XB hadn't come along, but now saving for CityX. |

spent 4 yrs of saving money, and hiding that cash from my wife. It payed off finally with buying the 05 12R I just picked up 2 weeks ago. Wife still not happy. lol But I just didn't want the same typical crotch rockets that damn near "everyone" rides. I considered the duc's and Aprilia's even the honda 919. But still I wanted a good ole American thumper machine.. My 86 yamaha Fazer still is a great bike for what it is and can keep up pretty well with the rice rockets... But it old,,, My buell,, hey virtualy new and don't have the maintainace expences that the duc's do. lol |

Not sure if I would have ever bought a tuber. Was into I4's at the time. Stumbled upon the XB at the dealership, and bought it on looks alone(and that was stock). I just bought a Night Rod for cruising, and thought I was done for a bit. Then I got to ride this bike...
It's an 05 with the bigger 1050 engine(120hp/lots of tq) single sided swingarm, 6 speed tranny with some kind of smooth-shift mechanism(technical term, it works too). Anyway, I fell in love again. The bike felt electric, with crazy throttle response and lots of power. This one was obviously tricked out and very much fit like my XB. I need one of these too! TK ps. I'd own a tuber in a heartbeat... reliability questions and all. But in all fairness I'm really impressed with the new Daytona 675. Something about it... they've blended alot of good attributes from other bikes into it. That's kind of it's strongest and weakest points at the same time though. I'd take a speed triple too, Tommy! It was an R1, or the XB12R for me. I went with the Buell because I loved the character. If the XB series wasn't released I probably wouldn't have bought a Buell. |

Ii dunno if I would have been interested in a tuber, since I started riding again just about the same time the XBs hit the market. Even so, it took me a couple of years before I could justify buying one (the retail price reduction really helped). The other bikes on my short list were the SV650S (I'm glad I didn't buy one, although many told me I'd be crazy to buy a Buell instead) and the Triumph Speed Four (a bike I still like a fair bit...but it seems a bit bulky compared to my XB9R). Currently, I think the Triumph 675 is one of the most interesting bikes on the market... |

i liked buell for their innovation and and things like that, but i thought the tubers were just plain ugly ( not to offend any one ), but as soon as i saw the xbs, that was the bike i wanted, no doubts in my mind, took me two years to get one, but that was the only bike i wanted in those 2 years and i have no regreets. now it might be different if i saw one at every stoplight like an R1 or CBR, but i like having the "underdog" or the "conversation piece", the bike is just bada$$. not just anyone can own one |

back in 99 i was interested in getting a bike again.... had a project 20 miles from town and along the way, i passed a harley dealer and was tempted to stop in to see what has changed in 10 years. Well, one day i actually did, and saw a white lightning....very cool, but the side mount aircleaner seemed like a wart, and while i liked the bike, i could'nt get past that wart. Fast forward to spring 05', thought about looking for a bike again, this time a 1200 sporty. Went to the harley dealer and happened upon the xb12s.....end of story, its now in my garage, no regrets. |

I had actually put down a deposit on an Aprilia Tuono 100R before buying my '05 XB12R. Very sweet bike and a tough decision, but the "feel" of the XB was just so different. If I could, I would own both. |

I'd hunted down four XR1000's here in the UK leading up to 1996/7. One was hot tuned and modified by Warrs and was a little off my taste buds, and it was out of my reach financially then anyway. Another of the four was near mint and original and was the one I wanted. It was damn near reachable with what money I had too, and just when I had everything almost in line, something else caught my attention. I remembered talking to the guy who owned the Warrs 'built' XR and him telling me Warrs had offered him a Buell in swop, which I thought odd at the time. I couldn't fathom out why the swop because Buells to me were fully faired sort of race styled bikes and looked nothing like an XR1000. So just when I was damn near right with the money for the XR I'd took a shine to, I walked into a shop near christmas time (no that's not a place in England) and saw the words poking out from over on the magazine shelf, BUELL BUILDS A STREETFIGHTER. So that's what Warrs were talking about eh. I bought the magazine of course, and by the first working day of the new year I was test riding a snap red S1 courtesy of Sparks - London. Being an import from the US, this was pre HD involvement in the UK, it was flat out at about 110mph and I was a little unimpressed by its performance and it was an even bigger price than the XR I'd aimed for. That test ride was a positive move though. I couldn't afford the S1 but I didn't buy the XR either. Instead I waited to see if I could raise S1 money given more time. Whilst that was going on I'd always fancied a 900 Monster but they were very pricey in the mid 90's, as were the 916's too, but the 916 always stirred my inner biking passions though back then it wasn't my ideal choice of ride. During my early day problems with my Buell the 916 and a Hayabusa got a serious thought or three from me, even test riding the Busa in July 99 when my second Buell toasted a rear cylinder and piston. The turning point came for me when Buell finally got the price down in the UK because of HD's involvement, rather than have to pay a big premium for a grey import, and just when everything was ready for me, the S1 model became the S1W and that was the best bike I'd ever seen and I just had to own one. August 1998 saw that happen. It's been a rewarding experience in many ways owning an S1W, but there have been several rather large pitfalls along the way, but I still own it and I enjoy owning her now more than I ever did before. I like the fact that she showcases the direction I've took her in rather than just have the odd modification here and there. If there is such a thing as a finished modified motorcycle I hope that this next few months leading up to summer will get me exactly there. I can't wait to see the finished result! Rocket |

Hmmm...for me it would have definitely been a Ducati, realistically the 749 Dark I test rode but maybe at a push the 'standard' 749. It was the extortionate insurance and £500 alarm system to go with it that killed the deal. |

Truthfully, the XB's are what turned me on to Buells. If I knew then what I know now, I would've gotten an X1 if the XB's hadn't been made. But realisticly, I would most likely have ended up on a Shadow. Boy am I glad they did make the XB. |

The thing that got me interested in Buells was the 2002 White Lightning X1 I saw in the HD/Suzuki/Honda shop. I sat on it, and that upright seating position with the mucly/bulging styling was all it took for me to drop my desires for a Japanese standard. I was quite young at the time, and even more broke, so I have watched Buells go from the X1 (still would own one, but not my first choice) to the XB9R that I hope to own some time in the not-to-distant future. I can't imagine any japanese bike manufacturer building a bike with the power delivery, look, price, reliability, ease of maintenance, fuel economy, and innovation that the XB series offers. If they do, I may consider it, and if the XB-RR wins the Daytona 200 it may not be that hard to imagine. However, Buell scores the top marks in my book on every one of those categories, while everything from Europe and Asia falls short in one, if not many, of those categories. |

I probably would have bought an X1 if not for the beloved XBs. A couple friends of mine had gotten Cyclones back in 2000 & I was totally hooked on Buell after 5 minutes of examining them. I always liked the way I was seated on the X1 & if I had $$ back then I would have gotten one. Then I saw a picture of the Firebolt in early 2001 & I knew one day I would own one. I kept that dream alive for four years until I finally found the means to get one and.. then...I got an S instead. Who woulda thunk it |

If the Super Duke had been available at the time I swapped the 9R to the 12S, I think I would be riding orange today. I've tried the Speed 3 (1050 version) and S4, but I prefer the 12S to these bikes. The KTM on the other hand.... |

I'm considering one of those new V-Max... I've always thought that a V4 with all the bells and whistles would make the perfect street engine. Maybe not as easy to work on as the XB engine though. I hope they have a model with adjustable suspenders... If not it's out the window. For me it's really more about the handling than anything else, and it has to have torque. I guess that's why I like V4's... Torque, power, RPM, sound... It's all good. |

M1 if your looking for the V-max to be a handling bike then head another direction. Although they are planning huge improvements the motor is a tank and they are promising bigger HP numbers. Being a past V-max owner that was heavily modified I'll be buying one if they infact release what I have seen so far. I miss my old Max... Tire smoking sideways burnouts in third gear.

Lol V-max best in class??? It doesn't have a class it is a stand alone bad boy Blvd A$$ kicking Muscle bike. Never a Street fighter and never,never,never a cruiser. The rear seat I don't think it'll be that way in production but maybe rather a pillion that maybe removeble would be slick. I hope they do it cause if they do.... its mine. Most fun qtr mile bike you could ever run in a stock form bike. It either burns up like a Top fueller or launches so hard that your arm straighten out and you get pushed back in the seat. Find the happy medium and your having a blast. |

Dana, I think you just named the V-Max's class. Muscle bike. The name fits like a glove. Or.. howabout Bruiser class? The V-Max looks like a bruiser. I can't believe they've been around for 20 years and are still just as cool as they were then. Perhaps even more. |

Ever heard a hot rodded V-Max with a good pipe on it? They sound WICKED. As for my bike choices, I was tossed up between my XB9s and Speed Triple. So, I borrowed my friends to see if I liked it. Nice bike, but it's not a fun play bike like the XB is. It's a super bike with dirtbike handle bars. |

My uncle builds drag race V-Max bikes and has a couple of modified barely street legal versions. Insane.... and a totally different kind of fun if you like losing peripheral vision and dont mind not being able to steer or stop very well. "Brakes are for sissies!" (Quote from my uncle.) They are definitely the epitome of the true muscle bike. Me... I like the corners.... |

If not an XB, it may have been a Speed Triple, but the problem is, I have to travel too far to get to the nearest Triumph dealer. There used to be a dealer that carried them a little more local, but they stopped for some reason. Had I waited a little longer after thinking of the Triple, it would have ended up being an '06 R1. |

Eat a Duc mine was set up for drag. I bought it new in 87. It was a left over 86. It seized a piston the first summer I owned it. Something very rare to happen. The pistons were replaced ,the heads redone,cams,flatside carbs,airshifter,and a chain conversion done. The only thing I never did was put struts on it cause I rode it on the street. She was good for high tens with me on it but I had a friend run it and it clicked off a 10.22. Was a fun bike. I will get another. |
